t was a clear and cold night. The nights were different here, the stars didn't look like the ones he had been so used to. It was like someone had shuffled them and put them back on the wrong places. This was wrong, this was all so wrong. And the people of Avalanche didn't see, no they were blind to the things that were right in front of them. They were so wrong. But they would see, Alpha would make sure of that. Soon enough everyone would see. And they would kneel before him and kiss his feet. It was written in the stars, he knew it.

The undying kept staring upwards, almost frozen as if the cold had gotten in his bones so badly that he had turned into a piece of ice. His head was full of thoughts, never ending thoughts, screaming thoughts, wrong thoughts. They were whispering in his ear, whispering around him as if the forest and the leaves had learned to talk. They talked, beautiful, poetic, false, hateful words. And Alpha listened. He always did. Demons, angels, Gods. All sitting on his shoulder, screaming and begging for his attention. There were no turns, every thought came at once and all while his eyes studied the skies. Wrong, wrong, wrong! The word was plastered on every stone, every leaf, every snowflake. But he would open their eyes, he would pry them open, take them out of their sockets even if they still refused to see. Because he would be their salvation.

So much more was said in the unsaid.

In absolute silence the blonde made her way through the gardens, her hands sometimes grazing the plants, yet, her thoughts weren’t focused on her environments at all and her eyes every so often darted up towards the clear sky, as if she was expecting for something to happen. It had been a while since she was forced to leave Lavarr, yet, she still wasn’t quite used to the Highlands. Not used to the cold, to the people, their customs, everything. But she would, she would work her way through the web, make them notice her, make them understand that they needed her. She was their solution, their salvation. Quietly the woman came to a stop, staring into the dark. One wouldn’t even have noticed him standing there, in his black clothes, wearing his dark mask. Yet, she did notice the soft reflection of the moon in his mask. He seemed to be lost in his own thoughts as well, although Hathor knew his were a lot more chaotic than hers. How long ago had it been since he fed?

Without saying a word, she sat down on a bench. Her eyes followed his gaze up to the sky and eventually returned back to focus on him. ”Alpha..” she spoke, finally breaking the absolute silence. ”Where are your thoughts travelling to this evening?” Her lips turned up a little into a small smile. Many would feel uncomfortable around the man, yet she never had. She knew what he was, and what he was capable of doing. Yet, she trusted him, just like she trusted Solista and Yunuen.

verything was different here. People stared, people whispered, people were afraid. Whenever they saw him walk they proclaimed they saw a demon, a monster, something send straight from hell, who would wreck everything that came on his path. They weren't far from the truth. But it could be avoided, they could all avoid death and destruction of they would just see. No, their eyes wouldn't be enough. It didn't matter if he pried them from their sockets if they didn't listen.

Yes, they needed to listen too. See and hear, believe, preach. In one hand he would carry their eyes, upwards towards the skies. They would see Solista and Yunuen in their full glory. In his other he would carry their ears and he would preach, preach below the sun and preach underneath the moon. And they had no choice but to listen. Yes, and then they would finally understand. They would be crawling on their hands and knees, desperate and lost. And he would guide them to their pen and he would be the wolf that would keep them safe. And they would have no other choice to follow. All would--

The sudden voice of a woman pierced right through his manic thoughts. It silenced the whispers around him, as if all suddenly remembered they had no mouths, no control over him. He was entirely his own, no one could tell him what to do. He was a High Priest, he was chosen by Yunuen himself, he would rule and he would let the people see, hear and believe. Alpha stayed where he stood, not moving a single muscle. Her voice was one he could recognize from a thousand others. His counterpart, the red thread woven through this entire prophecy. Hathor. ''Simply above us.'' He spoke in his low, raspy voice. His eyes once more, traveled up to the sky. The moon shone brightly, Yunuen had blessed them tonight. There were no clouds, nothing to falter his judgement. He was and would be right.

''They are heathens, Hathor. Even here, where they have their strongest roots. The people do not understand.'' He continued, finally turning around and looking at the woman sitting on the bench. ''They need to be purged. Cleansed. Baptised. All of it. They need to burn.'' His mask spoke no emotion and the moonlight never reached his eyes. And when the people burned, then they would see.

So much more was said in the unsaid.

By breaking the silence, Hathor knew she was able to silence the demons and angels on her counterpart’s shoulder screaming in his ears. Screaming for his attention, for him to listen to their words, to act upon them. It was her task to keep him from going completely insane, and sometimes they had been on that edge, that edge of complete madness, and she had been able to pull him back just in time. Her gaze was on him, focused, taking in every movement he made. His answer was mysterious, yet, Hathor completely managed to understand him. Her gaze travelled up to the sky as well, the stars shimmered brightly and there was no cloud in sight. Yunuen was on their side, and so was Solista.

Her eyes remained focused on the sky, even though she could hear him shift, turn towards her. His voice echoed through her thoughts, and she knew he was right. They were heathens, every single one of them. They needed to see, needed to hear, needed to learn. Yet, Hathor managed to remain completely calm, as she fixated her eyes back at the undying. ”Patience, Alpha..” The moon reflected on her face, showing the calmth in her eyes. ”They will, one day, but we need to be patient.” They had to be patient. If they made the wrong move, the heathens would take them. They would. And Yunuen and Solista could only do so much. It was in their hands now to show the people. To make them understand.

arkness was comforting, something he had always known in his life and had always carried with him. But when leliel came, she had lifted that darkness and showed him the sun. But it was only momentarily before the sun started to burn him and he pulled back again. Finding his rest and safety in darkness and losing his wife and son in the process. But then came the priest, who had only slightly opened the window to let the sun in again. It had given him time to adjust to it, and now he was soaking up her rays and bathing in the darkness he held so dear. It had become a perfect balance.

The woman in front of him told him to be patient. An answer that Alpha returned with a grunt. His patience was running thin. He had walked this earth for so long already, it had been so easy in Lavarr. But here people were a whole lot careful and very easily scared. They didn’t know how to see or how to listen and it was like they were too stubborn to let Hathor and Alpha show them the way. Instead, they closed their doors and barred their windows. And all Alpha was left with was seething hatred that seemed to grow by the day.

‘’Patience? Do you think that after everything there is room for patience?’’ He growled, looking down at her sitting on the bench. ‘’These people are.. lambs ready for slaughter. All we have to do is pick them up and throw them on the pile.’’ The undying continued, now moving his gaze upwards at the moon. Almost full and shining down on them in all his glory. ‘’And why is that so hard?’’ What had they done to deserve this punishment? Was banishment not enough? Did Solista and Yunuen not want to welcome any new followers to their flock? What piece of the puzzle was he missing?

She calmly leaned against the back of the bench, her ambergreen eyes fixated on him, although he was barely visible in the dark. She couldn’t see the expression on his face, yet, she was used to this. It was his voice that made her clear about what he felt, how he was almost out of his patience. He needed to burn the heathens, to make them listen and the make them see. But they couldn’t, not yet. She wasn’t going to throw away their destination by acting too soon, by being too eager. Solista and Yunuen couldn’t protect them against everything, they couldn’t help if there were too many against them. The order had to be careful, for else it would be them to burn.

Alpha didn’t seem to be bothered by it, at all. He stepped closer, yet, she didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. She slowly raised an eyebrow, skeptical about his words. ”We can’t.” She spoke, clearly and her voice filled with confidence. Slowly she got up from the bench, stepping closer to him. ”We can’t be too eager, Alpha.” They’ll burn us instead. ”We have to wait for the right time.” And this wasn’t the right time. She knew it for sure. ”We can’t just go out and murder as many as we can, they’ll act upon it and we aren’t with enough to fight all.” They couldn’t.

They would burn.

he Undying understood well enough that they had to be patient and he had walked quite a few centuries on this realm now to have that kind of patience, but it didn't mean he liked it. Back in Lavarr they had everything, they were heard and listened to, they were believed. Here, their words fell on deaf ears and it made him angry. Why couldn't these people see? Why couldn't they hear that they needed salvation? That Hathor and him were that salvation? What made them so blind? What made them so dumb that they followed different wolves to different slaughterhouses? What were they doing wrong?

Alpha played with a ring around his finger, he usually did when he was absentminded and found himself wandering around with his thoughts. The undying shook his head and then nodded. Mixed signals were a thing for him. He could very well say one thing and believe and think the opposite. But everything to lure people in their den with his honeyed words. ''Their mortal fires will not harm us, they can't.'' Alpha was not scared of fire, or dragons. He solely believed that he was above it all, that, as a champion of Solista and Yunuen, he could not be harmed. His eyes drifted back to Hathor. ''What do you propose then?'' He liked to hear her talk, her voice soothed the many screaming in his head. He hoped she came up with a better plan than wait, because he was done waiting. There had to be more to this tale and if it didn't go as planned, he would write that tale himself.

She listened to his words, considered them, but she knew that they couldn’t act just yet. It would harm them in so many different ways and she doubted Solista and Yunuen could help them out of such problems. Hathor could sense he was running out of patience, and it worried her. What if her partner did something they couldn’t solve? They had to be careful. The Highlands were nothing similar to what they were used to, they needed to adapt to this new land. Rushing would only cause harm to their fate. She slowly sighed as he asked for a suggestion what to do instead. Her eyes wandered away from Alpha, as she tried to gather her thoughts in an ordered manner.

It wasn’t easy to start over, especially after all they had back in Lavarr. There, the people worshipped them. Here, it was different. Here, they were unknown, mere foreigners that no-one truly wanted to listen to. Another sigh rolled over her lip. Perhaps they had started wrong. ”Perhaps we need to reconsider our tactics.” She started, looking up at the man in front of her again. ”Many have told me the highlands aren’t the most .. welcome place, and I’ve found many difficulties here, as have you. They don’t listen. That much is clear.” But they couldn’t just burn them all.

”Maybe we need to move.” Move to a place where people would listen. And then, from that, build their fate back up again until it was strong enough to even make the Highlands listen to their truths.

lpha had long ago lost his patience for matters like this. It had always come so natural in Lavarr, the worship, the awe, everything was different here. And he hated it. But the people in Lavarr should know by now that they were cursed for banishing them to Avalance. There was no place in the afterlife for them, the cowards and the sheep, all would burn in hell.

Readjusting his mask, he listened closely to what Hathor had to say. He seized his movements when she spoke of moving. For some reason it sounded like music to his ears. There was no cold here, no ice going down his spine or stiffening his bones. But there were distant people here, heathens and heretics. They didn’t understand and they didn’t want to understand. Alpha saw them as the worst of their species, the ones not open to change, to hearing the word that would salvage them and break them free. He grumbles something. ‘’Perhaps you are right. Perhaps these people deserve nothing but the flames.’’ He replied to her proposal calmly. The silence of the night calmed him a little, telling him that there were many more nights to come. And many more chances. ‘’There is a Tournament in a few weeks from now. In the Glade.’’ It would be too crowded, too few people listening. But it would give them a good view of what that place would be like, how willing people would be.

She knew Alpha was highly bothered by the fact no-one wanted to listen, she was too. However, she also knew what would happen if they acted too quick, too eager. The people would respond, and they wouldn’t be able to fight off that many. It sometimes worried her that the Undying might do something unpredictable, as he used to do back in Lavarr, but here.. here was different. One step in the wrong direction and the people might try to get rid of them. Here, they weren’t as holy as they were back in Lavarr. Here, the people didn’t see as clear.

Thus, she suggested they should move. Move to somewhere where it might be a little easier. The Northerners were harsh and they were not eager to trust outsiders. Even if those outsiders were bringing the truth to them, unfortunately. She slowly nodded to his words, staring at the darkness instead of at him. Her thoughts were rushing as he suggested to go to the tournament. ”And you suggest we should do what there?” Her eyes shot up to him again. ”The faith of the sun and the moon is not as strong in those parts of this land, we shouldn’t draw too much attention to ourselves there.” Hopefully Alpha would agree.
