Houses of Avalance

The feudal system of Avalance follows a simple system where every House, except for the King himself, has a liege they answer to directly. The High Houses answer to the King, the Noble Houses answer to their respective High House and each Minor House answers to a Noble House. This means that High and Noble Houses have vassals, which is just a fancy word for those who answer to them. i.e.: House Aldyr is House Freyr's liege. As such, House Freyr is House Aldyr's vassal.

In the list below you will find every High and Noble House known within Avalance. At times, some of these positions may be free and you will be able to apply by submitting the form below in a response to this topic. Some of the Houses might be ruled by NPC’s. These can be freed up later, but as of right now are not open for applications.

Please keep in mind that we do require you to have been active on Forged in Fire for at least a little while before taking your application into consideration. Try to be original and not follow in the footsteps of overused storylines.

For a detailed description on how to customize the template, please refer to the post below. To create a sigil for yourself, you can use this template or head to the sigil shop.

house aldyr of dragonwatch

king faolan aldyr
queen none
heir none
liegenone
vassals house vigneron, house sylversword, house freyr, House moore, house cross, house thorne.

“Beyond the skies we rise.”

House Aldyr has ruled Avalance for quite a while without having much resistance, meaning many of their kings are very proud and think highly of themselves. Many of the Aldyr bloodline share the dragonriders blood and almost all of them have an affinity towards fire dragons, as the dragon rode by Eleahra Daleros is of the fire kind.

house moore of hallistall

lord none
lady claude moore
heir none
liegehouse aldyr
vassalsnone

“Pride and prosperity.”

Hallistall is known for its cavalry. They have some of the best horses of Avalance and actively breed their purest bloodlines. House Moore has horses whose heritage goes way back to the earlier days of the city. They know how to train and take care of them, after which they earn good coin by selling them to other houses, which makes horses their main trademark. And because they own all those horses, all of them which are not good enough for breeding are send to their cavalry, which is one of the biggest in Avalance.

house cross of oakstead

lordbasilton cross
lady ava cross
heir first last
liegehouse aldyr
vassalsnone

“Correct and magnificent.”

House Cross is mostly known for their magnificent work all throughout the Crownlands. They are great architects that come up with the wildest, most beautiful ideas. With everything they design and build, they strive for perfection. Their most recent creation always needs to be better than the previous one. Everything they create is especially well detailed and above all, unique.

house thorne of crestfall

lord none
lady miya thorne
heir none
liegehouse aldyr
vassalsHouse D'este

“Truth sets us free.”

Truth above everything. No matter how much the people differ from each other within the House of Thorne, they have all been raised to value one above all else: truth. Many of the family have decided to travel, still keeping in touch with their family and returning home ever so often, adding knowledge to their ever growing collection. The current Lord, Isaac, is a gentle soul with a big heart, even though he might not seem that way, the man cares about protecting the young and has, more than once, taken in a child who would otherwise be raised by the streets. Due to this, the name Thorne is only ever growing stronger.

house vigneron of wineport

lord delsin vigneron
lady enya vigneron
heir cassiel vigneron
liegehouse aldyr
vassalshouse couture, house mercier of riverhold & kraken's harbour, house rizio.

“Pure of Heart.”

House Vigneron has led the Evergreen for many generations now, doing so in absolute peace. This family has always believed that a good life equals a good death, so that is what they strive to have. They made their way to High House by growing grapes and eventually selling wine, making money and allies in the process. Their relationship with the king even rivals that of the Sylversword family, especially now that their alliance has been strengthened by the most recent marriage. As the only High House to also have an alliance with House Freyr, Vigneron strives to be neutral in most wars, taking on the role of friendly neighbour, where people from every place are welcome, no matter the current political conflicts.

house couture of fairview

lord Joshua Couture
lady Amelia Couture
heir none
liegehouse vigneron
vassalsnone

“Ever growing.”

The Couture House is a prideful house, standing for their House before anything else. They often have a good bond with their smallfolk and invest in their wellbeing. Because of their prideful nature and their love for trade, they could possibly either have a fierce competition with Riverhold and Kraken's lair or work collaboratively to increase the wealth of all the ports.

house mercier of riverhold

lord Aemon Mercier
lady Elayne Mercier
heir none
liegehouse vigneron
vassalsHouse Cascioferro

“Wealth of the Sea.”

House Mercier is one of the oldest houses in Evergreen. Once a rich merchant family from Lavarr, now a respectable house holding one of the most important trading positions in Avalance. Though they have known their hardships, House Mercier has stood through all of them and has proven that they are strong and not to be messed with. The Merciers are known for their harsh actions, usually dealing with the consequences when they feel like it. They aren’t scared of threats, and it doesn’t matter if they are on the receiving end or the other way around. They are fighters, fiercely protecting their citizens and everything that they own.

house mercier of kraken’s harbour

lord arryn mercier
lady aveline mercier
heir none
liegehouse vigneron
vassalsnone

“Wherever there’s will we sail.”

Formerly known as a piracy city Kraken’s Lair is now under the restless rule of Arryn Mercier. After that Lord Fabron left the city Arryn got the proposal from his sister to take over Kraken’s Lair and turn the Evergreen to one united rule under Lord Vigneron. That means change. Arryn Mercier is known for his loyalty more than his hatred towards pirates. Taking over Kraken Lair means that a big part of the piracy leaves with its previous lord and makes place for a new kind of business; The Mercier Fleet.

house rizio of dorwine

lord Ardythe Rizio
lady Alysanne Aldyr
heir none
liegehouse vigneron
vassalshouse alcazar

“Deeds, not words.”

House Rizio started as blacksmiths, a craft they excell in. They take a lot of pride in their work. The blacksmiths specialize in details, embed sigils, specify armory or weaponry. As it is House Rizio that moves to the city, it can be rest assured that blacksmiths find themselves at the top of their game. Since a few years the Rizio’s are also known for their private army. The army has over two hundred men loyal to only the Rizio’s. With Ardythe Rizio as Lord of the city, the army finds a new ground to train and flourish.

house sylversword of sapphire keep

lord gabriël sylversword
lady Alisandra Sylversword
heir none
liegehouse aldyr
vassalsHouse cerwyn, House carthas.

“Out of darkness we bring light.”

In comparison to the other high houses of Avalance, House Sylversword is fairly young, considering they are only in their fourth generation of rulers. After the Glade lost their previous lord and his rightful heir during the last war, it was the king's most trusted friend, a loyal knight, who was announced as the new lord of the Glade. The new house was met with a lot of wariness in the Glade, for the gladers had never been too fond of change and strangers. However, over the years, House Sylversword has proven their worth as high house of the Glade, standing tall and strong and ruling over the Glade with kindness and a sense of justice. They are well-known for their impressive history of noble knights and fierce warriors, although the most impressive of all is the story of Ser Gabriel, the first Sylversword.

house Cerwyn of silvershire

lord dax cerwyn
lady none
heir none
liegehouse sylversword
vassalsnone

“Strength rejoices in the challenge.”

House Cerwyn is a fairly new house to the political scene. They tend to keep busy with the training of knights. Knights that are mainly trained for the High House of the Glade yet some of them roam out of the province as well. Knights that have been trained in Silvershire are well known for their skillset and their discipline and loyalty to House Cerwyn. They are being prepared in almost any known fighting style there is, train with swords, bows, daggers, spears and even axes.

house Carthas of goldenleaf

lord Frederick Carthas
lady Alison Carthas
heir first last
liegehouse sylversword
vassalsnone

The reign of house Carthas has always heavily depended on the current ruler. The temperament of the Carthas family is a well-known and often discussed topic. For every fairly normal member, there’s one that walks a more intense path. Though sometimes brutal, their reign is always just. The current acting ruler is young and new to this position and therefore still finding her place. However, even though she has a kind heart she is quite cunning and ambitious and should not be underestimated.

house freyr of caer scion

lord Castor Freyr
lady none
heir none
liegehouse aldyr
vassalsHouse Corbin, House Laighin.

“In the heat of winter.”

For over five hundred years, House Freyr has ruled the Highlands with an iron fist. It does not always make them the most popular family around. People know that their reign is fair and just though. They only punish when the accused is proven guilty. Once they have enough proof, punishment is harsh. But it is all with the well-being of the people in mind. And for that reason, they respect the House regardless of their strict policy. To ensure the Highlands continue to be the strong entity they are, the Lord is assisted by his small council. Members of the council are chosen by the Lord and are often people that have proved to be trustworthy and experienced in important matters such as warfare, intelligence and bookkeeping.

house corbin of aeldun

lord elijah corbin
lady none
heir none
liegehouse freyr
vassalsnone

“True and Just.”

House Corbin is known for often hosting audiences. They try to listen to the common people living in Aeldun and around the city as much as possible, offering help and coin where needed. But do not confuse their act of kindness for weakness as they will remember who they've helped and can sometimes ask favors in return when they see fit. Just like their sigil, the raven, they have excellent memory and will remember any face and name who tries to do harm to them or their loved ones.

This house is currently under NPC rule.

house Laighin of Last Hearth

lord Mikael Laighin
lady Ingrid Laighin
heir Erik Laighin
liegehouse freyr
vassalsnone

“To fight or work, we are ready.”

After the departure of Lady Skarsgård, House Laighin has taken the seat of the Last Hearth. With Ingrid being born in the far North, their relationship with these people is better than ever and trade is reaching its all-time high. Most of the people within their village are fishermen or smiths and the Lord himself is no exception, oftentimes found fishing at the Frozen Abyss.

This house is currently under NPC rule.

house illeon of ashax

king first last
queen zehirah illeon
heir not specified
liegenone
vassalshouse lynch, house mahli

“We are and always will be.”

House Illeon is a family proud of its descendance. While certainly more peaceful than House Freyr, they still hold on to their claim to the throne of Avalance and are not afraid to fight for their rights. Because of the history of Ashax and the fact that the Rift has separated them from the mainland for hundreds of years, the rules people abide to are a bit different to those of the rest of Avalance. Most folks are easy going and less rigid than those from the mainland, but with a very passionate heart. Due to Asherah’s rule and also the choice her father, Theoden, made, it is not uncommon for Ashax and primarily House Illeon to have female heirs, their husbands taking on their surname instead of the other way around.

house Lynch of Sandport

lord Achak Lynch
lady Tarsha Lynch
heir none
liegehouse illeon
vassalsnone

“We can, we did.”

A relatively new House. House Lynch are known throughout all of Avalance as one of, if not the, best shipbuilders. They’re a quiet family in comparison to the rest of Ashax, mostly keeping to themselves as they find new ways to improve their ships. As a hard-working family, their city thrives financially and the city is generally fond of them.

This house is currently under NPC rule.

house Mahli of Sunfall

lord Kahale Mahli
lady Nalani Mahli
heir Akamu Mahli
liegehouse illeon
vassalsnone

“Live long and die free.”

As the main port of trade to Yax’in, it is no surprise that House Mahli has always been influenced by their ways and traditions, to the point where the current Lady is as much Avalance as she is Yax’in. Despite its active trade, Sunfall is hardly known for its hard workers, but instead for the bright festivities and the beautiful beaches. House Mahli keeps up this reputation, hosting the biggest parties in its city. Still, they managed to balance work and leisure equally well.

This house is currently under NPC rule.

To use the pre-made aesthetics for your house information, please change the div id at the very start of the code.
Code:
<center><div class="forgedsheet" id="THIS IS WHAT YOU CHANGE">
You can change it into one of the following words: highlands glade crownlands evergreen ashax foreign custom . If you use custom, please fill in the style at the very bottom of the code.

For this particular example, the "crownlands" aesthetic has been used. The default for the introduction will be set to custom.

On the top right, the House's Sigil is located. The image url can be found above this block, with the following code:
Code:
<div class="qlsigil"><img src="https://i.servimg.com/u/f66/15/66/46/79/common10.png"></div>

For High Houses, the shape of the sigils is slightly different. For this reason, they should change qlsigil to qlhsigil, which results in the following:
Code:
<div class="qlhsigil"><img src="https://i.servimg.com/u/f66/15/66/46/79/common10.png"></div>

In this example, we're using the High House Sigil.

house carrasco perseverance conquers all

overview

lord cihan carrasco
lady -
heir -
seat oakstead

The Carrasco family is among one of the wealthiest families within the Crownlands, and they have many good connections too. Not only across Avalance but in Ashax and Lavarr as well where they get most of their spices and coffee from. Their family started in the trade with their luxurious spices, but they soon started investing in coffee and sugar as well.

Due to this they have many large warehouses, most of them located in the important harbour cities. They slowly but surely made quite a name for themselves in this trade and they were able to create a large amount of wealth from it. Most of their spices still come from Ashax and Lavarr, but they have a few fields of their own near Dorwine as well.

However, they never stopped there as they were always looking for new investments or opportunities. They began taking an interest in horses too and soon enough they started trading with Hallistall as well, their vassal at the time. They bred and sold horses - at their family estate near Hallistall - to their cavalry.

politics

liege House Aldyr
vassals none
alliances House Cerwyn, more will be added soon.

The Carrasco’s have always been loyal to the crown, and the other houses within the Crownlands, showing up at every war, to fight for their king. Their house has always been mostly divided with some family members living and working near Hallistall, while others were mostly doing business within Dragonwatch. Therefore they share a good connection with both cities. And that, in the end, has always led them to being a rather good vassal.

Due to Avar Carrasco working for Claude Moore as her Cavalry General, and due to their trade in horses, they still hold a good connection with House Moore as well, and Cihan intends on keeping it that way.

Cihan has worked for Dax in Silvershire for a large amount of time as well, which means he had good connection with the Glade (or mostly Silvershire) as well.

city

Surrounded by mostly forests and woodlands, with a lot of beautiful open fields here and there, Oakstead finds itself in the perfect location for hunters and woodworkers. There are many hills with little paths running through them, connecting the small farmlands and little woodworking cottages to the city.

There is a little stream running through the center of the actual city and many houses are built directly next to it, elevated and high enough to prevent them from being flooded in the winter, when there flows more water through the little river. In the summer the stream doesn’t really look like much, it contains some puddles, sometimes with little to no movement at all. Further downstream in some of the larger pools, some larger trout can be found as well, perfect for the occasional fisherman.

High up on a hill near the city stands a castle made out of stone, more elevated than the rest of the city that is mostly surrounding the little stream. From there you can watch over the entire city, but the city isn’t that very large as well. The little streets and alleyways are all made up of cobblestone, and the houses are mostly made out of stone as well, complemented with dark wood. Many of the civilians like to decorate their homes with flowers and greenery, and with lots of ivy hanging around the sides of homes.

(I will make a more detailed desciption when it get's accepted, with a map and all other extra's)

family

lord Cihan Carrasco
lady -
children -
other siblings: Avar & Elia Carrasco, cousin: Kell Carrasco, Nieces: Alisandra Carrasco & Helia winter

The Carrasco’s have stood for quite some time and they had gained quite some wealth with their trading business over the many years. It's no surprise that most of them are still mainly focussed on their trading businesses, as this always remained an important task within the family.

However, they recently had to deal with the deaths of some of their most important business figures within the family, and some things took a different turn for them. Cihan Carrasco has now taken his place as head of the family after the death of their eldest brother Masym and their father. Avar Carrasco would have been the oldest of the remaining siblings but he passed on his responsibilities to his younger brother because he doesn’t have an interest in politics, and he will remain at the side of Claude Moore as the general of her cavalry.

While Cihan will now take charge of his family and all of their affairs and decisions, Elia will still be taking care of most of their businesses since she has much more experience with those. He himself hasn’t spended much time on the business part of their family as he had been working for Dax Cerwyn within the Glade in recent years. The man himself is more of a fighter, like his brother, but he has an ambitious side as well, making him quite fit for being head of their house or for taking control over a city.

There were a few bastards walking around too, and they only recently found out about them just before the death of their brother Masym Carrasco. Cihan has found two of them and he wants to offer them a place within their family, taking their family name as well, as this was their brother’s final wish.. Hoping they will be able to secure more alliances between them and other houses.

history

The family doesn’t have a large history of feuds or troubles with other houses, as they have always been a very respectable family. Not ever sticking their noses into other people’s own businesses and only making deals if they would be beneficial for both parties. They worked their way up by gaining a fair reputation, by showing loyalty and working hard for their trading business, taking an interest in many side businesses as well. And their hard work paid off as they are now a very typical example of a wealthy house within the Crownlands.

For a long time, nothing much had happened within their family as everyone was just doing their own things, doing their own jobs, and business keeping up the family business. However, just before the war started, Masym Carrasco passed away. The eldest son of their head of house, and the heir. It shook things up a bit and it was a great loss for the family. Yet, then when the war happened, most of the Carrasco’s moved to Dragonwatch to support their king and their own liege. It was then when their father started falling ill as well. He passed away during the war, leaving Cihan to care for his family..

Cihan always had a different approach to things in life, he wasn’t the heir to their house so he followed his own path up until now. He doesn’t care much about their family business, as it mostly bores him, and those parts are now mostly handled by his sister, Elia Carrasco. But, he is actually very ambitious and he does want to rise up with his family name, so he is looking for opportunities to do so, in order to make his family greater than it had ever been. While he doesn’t like to be involved into politics too much, he does know how to handle those and he is rather good at keeping his composure and making the right decisions when it comes down to it. He knows very well how the world works, and how people work, so he is rather good at playing the game alone.

In order to move up his plan is to ask Faolan, the new king, and a rather good friend to his sister, to grant him the city Oakstead. After he had visited the city on his way back from the Glade, he noticed it wasn’t fairing that very well under its current rule, and it seemed to him like the city would be in dire need of some new finances, something he could provide thanks to the fact that his family owns a lot of wealth due to their many businesses. He wants to take this chance to prove himself to his own family, and to expand his family’s name and reputation.

house cross "Correct and Magnificent"

overview

lord Basilton Cross
lady Ava Whytebeard
heir none
seat Oakstead

House Cross is mostly known for their magnificent work all throughout the Crownlands. They are great architects that come up with the wildest, most beautiful ideas. With everything they design and build, they strive for perfection. Their most recent creation always needs to be better than the previous one. Everything they create is especially well detailed and above all, unique.

Over the recent years, House Cross has been through a lot, which had not made them popular among the common people. It all started when Lord Rabastan Cross fell victim to an illness of the mind. Some people thought it was a curse placed upon them by the Gods. Then his eldest son took over, but shortly after he too started losing his mind and was soon unfit to rule his house any longer. It was then that Nathanaël Cross got his chance and things were finally going well for them. He managed to become Lord of Oakstead after his cousin died. People were finally starting to trust the family again and were happy to have them. But then, when they needed him the most, he vanished.

Now the youngest of the Cross siblings has stepped up and taken over the seat in Oakstead, awaiting the return of his lost brother. Although he is the only one who still believes he might one day return home. The people of Oakstead don't share his views. They are desperate, scared and don't trust this young couple to guide them through these difficult times. Especially since they do not trust the Whytebeard family. Everyone knows what their late Lord has done to the Crown, and they do not want any of them in their city. Right now, they feel like the Gods have abandoned them.

Due to Basilton Cross's long lasting friendship with the King and his position in his council, they have a strong alliance with the Crown. Both sides know they can rely on one another when the time comes. They will provide them with the necessary wood or game when needed.

Other alliances still need to be established, as they know how important it is to have them. Luckily they have befriended a lot of people from a lot of different houses over the years, so they hope that the can one day call those houses their allies.

city

Located within the lush, green forests of the Green Antler lies Oakstead. The city is among some of the most beautiful in Avalance, in part due to its proximity to nature, as well as the unique architecture of the local buildings.

Most of the people inhabiting the city are working class, meaning that they practice their own trade in order to make a living. Unfortunately, the people of Oakstead have been met with a lot of adversity lately. Failed harvests, lack of prey, an abundance of bandits, and the civil wars have made it difficult for many to get by. As such, the people of Oakstead are no longer thriving the way they used to.

At its foundation, Oakstead resembles most other cities within the Crownlands, but it stands out because of the accents of green that run through the city. You will find trees, shrubberies, and flowers blooming in between the homes and stores, giving the place a vibrant appearance. Most of the buildings are traditional stone works, but are beautifully adorned with hardwood accents. The wood itself, of course, hails from the Green Antler.

Since the city is known for its excellent architecture, there are plenty of buildings in Oakstead that will catch the eye. Among those are the Bastion du Ruisseau Rouge and the Cathédrale de l'Étoile. These buildings have been designed by the ancestors of House Cross and still stand proudly to this day. Any visitor will surely want to stop by these landmarks.

Surrounding the city are acres upon acres of forest. These woods supply the city with pelts, meat, and wood. Part of it is used by the inhabitants of Oakstead, after the remainder is sold for profit. Hunting parties frequently depart from the city, taking advantage of the rich wildlife that the Green Antler has to offer. However, parts of the forests are dense and dark, and prey animals are not the only ones lurking within its depths.

family

lord Basilton Cross
lady Ava Whytebeard
children None
other Enya Vigneron, Artax Whytebeard

Their family have grown a lot during the recent years, yet the family business has stayed the same. They still work all around the Crownlands, building new houses and other places. After the war against House Illeon, they helped rebuild Dragonwatch.

The family has been through a lot over the last two years. First the oldest sibling falls ill and Nathanaël ends up taking over the House, only to then also become Lord of Oakstead. It was the first time in history, that their House changed from a Minor one, to a Noble house. It was a time for celebration, but it did not last long. Not that long ago, someone broke into their family estate near Dragonwatch and killed everyone inside, including Paxton Cross. Around the same time, Nathanaël goes missing at sea, leaving the youngest sibling alone. He is now asked to rule the House, but also become Lord of Oakstead in Nathanaëls absence.

Recently, Basilton Cross has asked Ava Whytebeard to marry him, as he wants to help her out of the terrible life her brother has caused her. She wants her to have a new family and a place she can call home. He hopes this will also help the people forget her brother's betrayal. For now, the people still remember what he has done to Costia Thorne and don't trust her very much.

history

For many generations, House Cross was known as a minor house. They were known throughout the Crownlands for their skills in architecture. With a unique style, their work was easily recognizable. Many important buildings were designed by their ancestors and are still standing upon this day. There work can even be traced back to the Royal Palace.

Their House has always been a peacful one. It was never one of warriors, but they would use their craftmanship to design structures that could be used on the battlefield. Their loyalty was unquestionable, as they have always had the Royal House's back and never once betrayed them or stood up against them.

When Rabastan Cross became Lord of House Cross, he was still very young as the flu had taken his father away from him. His young age did not scare him, as he was certain he was ready. Soon after he became Lord of House Cross, he got married to Beatrice Quinn and they ended up having four sons.

From the outside, they looked like the perfect family. What no one knew back then, was that they carried a family secret with them. Throughout the many different generations, some of the men were struck by an ilness to the mind. Those unlucky men, slowly started to lose their mind and often died early. Rabastan Cross ended up being one of the unlucky ones, but he refused help and wanted to keep ruling his house. It started with small things. He saw things that were not there, or he remembered things differenlty, but he was good at hiding it. In the end, he was extremly paranoïd and was certain there were people after him. He picked fights with everyone and during one very bad day, he even tried to kill his own wife. Soon after that incident, the man died in his sleep. Up until this day, there are still rumours that it was his own wife who ended up killing him. Especially since she left soon after and never returned.

The young brothers prosper in their work for many years. With Hamilton Cross as eldest son the house flourishes in their works, until tragady hits again. Their new Lord manages to hide it for many years as the ilness progresses very slowly, but at one point he becomes unable to hide it any longer. His siblings are the first to figure out he has inherited their fathers ilness and Nathanaël is forced to be home more often and look after their family as new head of the House.
It is during this time, that Lord Quinn of Oakstead meets his end too and Nathanaël Cross is asked to ride to Oakstead. He rides out at first light, were he meets with the younger sister of the late Rowan Quinn. She hands him a letter, written by their father which states that if Rowan ever comes to die without producing an heir, the house would go to the Cross Family. In those events, Nathanaël becomes lord of Oakstead, trying to be as good a ruler as his cousin Rowan was when he was still alive.

When war came to Avalance and House Illeon planned to attack Dragonwatch, they sent their troops to Dragonwatch to fight for their King. Once the war was done, they also offered to rebuild the city to its former glory.

Back in Oakstead, the people were happy with their new Lord, and stood behind him in every decision he made. Things were great and the city was flourishing, until Nathanaël Cross set sail for Lavarr, only to never return. Their ship is lost at sea and no one has heard from them since. In his absence, a letter was sent to the new King, addressing their concern as a city can not go one without a proper Lord. The youngest of the Cross siblings was given the upertunity to lead the city, and he accepted as he still hopes that his brother will one day return home. Basilton never wanted to rule a city or even a House, but fate has other plans for them. He will do what is necessary to help Avalance and, most of all, their new King.
