The hunter's moon is shining
A soft sigh escaped her while she pressed her fingers against her forehead. Rain dripped down around her, sliding down her face and clothing. She had expected it to be difficult, to lead these tribes towards the south. They were so very similar, yet so vastly different in their beliefs. While Valkyrie had been convinced that the decision to travel down south was the right one, she already noticed that some problems were arising. She kept her back straight and had managed thusfar, but she already could feel some friction.

So, here, walking under the moonlight she recounted all the problems that they had encountered in the High North. The drought, the undying, the dragon. There was no way that they could stay there while the southerners enraged the spirit with their wasteful squander and ignorance. She walked towards a familiar tent, the one her shaman was residing in probably. She pulled away the entrance flap and walked in. It was nice being out of the rain. "Yrsa?" she asked, eyes adjusting to the darker environment.

The coming weeks would certainly have to prove if this was a smart plan or not. Yrsa believed that something needed to be done about the reckless behaviour in the south, but she was not as sure yet about uniting the Tribes and travelling down with the whole group. Their homeland might not be as inviting anymore if it ever had been, but it was home nonetheless. There was a fragile balance in their way of life which could easily be disturbed with these changes. Or maybe she was already a little homesick and refused to admit it.

She was seated on the furs in her tent, crossed legged, but her mind was elsewhere. Where she had used her magic before, mostly to connect with the spirits and to uncover new omens, now she used it to get a grasp of their surroundings. It was soothing, in a way, to soar through the night sky. A moment to empty your head, see and think clearly. Even with the rain battering down on the wings of the raven she had picked.

There was no voice calling her back, no sense of who or what, just a simple sensation that told her she was not alone anymore. She had practised long and hard to be able to sense it, as it was safer that way. Yrsa freed the bird, let her spirit wander back to her own body. Her eyes rolled back into focus, followed by a sharp intake of air. She was silent for a short moment, adjusting before her gaze fell on Valkyrie. "Did you need me for something?" she asked. It was a genuine question, not a remark for disturbing her flight.

The hunter's moon is shining
There she was, Yrsa Nunataq, the wise shaman of the White Bear Tribe. Valkyrie would never question her spiritual knowledge, yet she knew that the distaste of Yrsa towards their newfound travels was a personal one. This gave Valkyrie the courage and perseverance to press on. The spirits would guide them forward, if anything, they were probably relieved to see that people of that followed their guidance were going to bring more balance to this strange world.

Ysra seemed to be quite calm as she sat there and Valkyrie patiently waited for her to come back. She would not disturb her shaman if she were in any of her trances. Who know what the wise woman was seeing. Thus, she stood back, her eyes resting on the flames of the light that Yrsa held in her tent. It was almost uncanny, how the woman seemed to feel that someone had come into her proximity, as she seemed to be so far away with her mind. A sharp intake of breath betrayed the fact that Yrsa was with them once again and Valkyrie looked up to her shaman in response to this.

Yrsa asked her whether she was needed for something and Valkyrie shook her head in response. ”Not necessarily,” the redheaded woman responded, before sitting down on the floor and crossing her legs, making herself a little more comfortable and getting on the same height as Yrsa at the same time. ”Did the spirits show you anything?” she decided to ask first. ”Did they provide the tribe with any guidance?” While the leader was quite sure that this path they were taking was the correct one, she would always check back in with her shaman to ensure the spirits were still content with them.

Valkyrie responded with a shake of her head, saying that that was not necessarily anything she needed Yrsa for. The woman reacted with a short nod. Even if she was not needed, it was clear that the leader of their expedition wanted a word with her, as she sat down as well. Which was understandable. Especially in these times, every leader was looking for guidance from their shaman.

She had expected the question before it came. If the spirits had shown her anything and if they had provided the Tribe with any guidance. Yrsa shook her head. "I just felt their presence, there's been nothing new. I was mostly just scouting the terrain, getting a feel for our surroundings," she explained. They were in enemy territory after all. This was not their land, even though they would do a lot better keeping nature from lashing out if it was.

"What's our next move?" it was her time to ask. It had been Valkyrie here who had brought them together and led them south. No better person to ask than her, especially because she had been Yrsa's Tribe leader before this journey already.

She was convinced that the path they were taking was the right one, yet it was winding and treacherous. While the path was clear to her, there were many branches that could mean disaster if they were taken. Thus, she often sought counsel with her shaman, sure that if they were standing on the brink of danger, the spirits would let them know.

Yrsa mentioned that the spirits had nothing new to share, but that they had been present. She gave a nod to her shaman, quite relieved by this answer. "Well.. I suppose that silence is good in this situation, if they were angered by our decisions or felt that we were nearing disaster, they would let us know," Valkyrie concluded before laying her hands on her lap. Her orange curls fell down her shoulders as she leaned forward. "Was there anything to learn from the land?" she asked, knowing that her shaman could scout the wide surroundings without even leaving her tent. It was an advantage that cannot be ignored. "Any settlements that we have to watch out for?"

Yrsa wouldn't be Yrsa without questions of her own. That was one of the big reasons that Valkyrie trusted her Shamn. She knew that the Bear Shaman would never soften her words or agree with something just to alleviate tension. She knew that Yrsa would always question her decisions if she deemed it needed. "For now, we will push on carefully," Valkyrie replied, "see where we are met with a push back, try to get a feel how far we can go until they start getting agitated." She didn't want to go to war with these people, the Northern Tribes were resilient yet could not face an army. They were like the small mosquito, be too agitating and you would be swatted away. No, they would have to be smart about this.

One could complain all they liked about this new plan of theirs, but Yrsa knew that Valkyrie would not make hasty decisions without consulting the opinion of her shaman and thus the spirits. It was part of why the woman had faith in their young leader. Some would have preferred someone more reckless, but she thought it fitted this journey nicely to take a little more care.

"Silent but present is comforting. They have not abandoned us," she agreed. Yrsa was sure there would be dangers up ahead, but if they threatened to face something they would not be able to conquer, the spirits would warn them. As long as they stayed with them, but kept quiet, the near future did not promise to hold much bad luck.

A small grin appeared on her lips when she was asked about what she had been looking for. If there had been anything to learn from the land or if there were any settlements they had to watch out for. "This part of the south seems as desolate as some of our territories. There are small settlements, but they are scattered far apart. There's a larger one a little further south. They might cause trouble, but I'm not sure yet," she explained what she had gathered from the last few days as well as tonight.

They planned to push on carefully, Valkyrie told her. They would have to see at what point the southerners started to push back, try to drive them off. She nodded, knowing that they would have to get a better feel of their neighbours before they could make any serious claims. "Maybe some would be willing to scout ahead, appear as a small trading group. See what they're like at this time of year," she suggested. It was getting colder already and while the winters were not as harsh here as to where they had come from, people were often less happy to invite strangers into their homes during the cold moons of the year.

Their presence was comforting. Valkyrie nodded tersely at that comment. At least the spirits were there for them, watching over them, guiding them. She was certain this was the right path to take, otherwise the spirits would have deterred them. She knew it would be hard, taking their people from their current home, but what home was there to return to? First the undying came and the southerners were unwelcome, then the Ice Dragon started to show its fierce rage. Then, finally, storms started wrecking their homes. There was no home to return to, not in Valkyrie's opinion. They had to persevere. She knew this was the road the spirits wanted them to follow.

"You are a gifted Shaman, Yrsa, the White Bear tribe is lucky to have you," Valkyrie commented with a soft smile gracing her lips. She could almost picture the images that Yrsa painted so vividly in her head. "With the smaller settlements, we probably won't run into trouble," she mused, tracing the dusty ground with one of her fingers while she thought. "We will only know whether they will cause trouble when we meet the trouble. For now, let's assume the best," she said, leaning backwards and closing her bright green eyes. "We will probably not be met with kindness," she mumbled. She expected as much at least.

Knowing the spirits were with them should be comforting to most of them, especially the one Tribe Leader who had gotten them together to travel south. If this had been one huge mistake, they would have let them know. The fact that there was no warning yet, meant they were probably on the right track, although you could never know for sure.

Yrsa let out an amused huff when Valkyrie told her she was a gifted Shaman and that the White Bear Tribe was lucky to have her. The usual thing she did with compliments, wave them off rather than embrace them as some did. It was good to hear, however, that the woman placed her faith in her. Even though they could sometimes argue about the next course of action.

They probably would not run into trouble with the smaller settlements, and they would only know whether there would be a problem if that problem arose. "It's hard to know what to expect out here," she agreed when Valkyrie mumbled they would probably not be met with kindness. "If I remember correctly, some of the villages here trade with Tribesmen from the North. But if we're here for anything other than trade, I don't expect them to be as welcoming. Then again, we don't know much about them," she mused. It could go so many different ways.

The shaman responded that expectations were hard to be set in this environment. Valkyrie knew that of course, the red headed tribeswoman had only heard of the tales of the south when she had formed this plan. The thing she did know, however, were promises of fertile grounds and wasteful people who angered the spirits. If only they could teach them the ways that would appease the spirits. Then their kin in the north wouldn't suffer under their behavior. Her fingers scraped in the dust when she clenched her fist in mild frustration before she cast her gaze to her shaman again.

"We knew that when we set out, but for now everything seems to be as we expected, we are doing well," she mused. Yrsa had grown up with these stories as well, told by the people who did go down north to trade with the people of Avalance. "I know, those villages are not the ones I am worried about," she said before resting her chin on the palm of her hand, green eyes staring in the distance. "Perhaps worried is the wrong phrase though. I am.. cautious, I suppose." Her gaze flitted to Yrsa again. "What do you think of the people who have come with us?"

They had already known of this uncertainty when they had decided to set out. For now, everything seemed to be going well and within the set expectations. Yrsa nodded to Valkyries words. It would probably start to change once they headed further south, to places rarely mentioned in tales where they had come from.

The trading villages were not the once they should worry about. Its people were well aware of the Northern tribes. "It's good to be cautious. Some seem to be lacking it, keen on underestimating whatever we will face here," she commented. She had seen it everywhere around her. They were strong and proud people, but they could not let that become their downfall.

Valkyrie asked her what she thought of the people who had come with them, which caused the shaman to let out a thoughtful hum. "If they all work together they will be a force to be reckoned with, but the fact that we have so many different tribes with us could also make it difficult." Keeping everyone satisfied would be a challenge.

A slight grin appeared on her face at the words of her Shaman. Someone immediately sprang to mind at her words, sadly. ”You can say the Black Wolf Tribe, I won’t judge,” she said, giving Yrsa a slight shove. While Valkyrie had difficulties getting a measure of his Shaman as of yet, Valdis, she knew that she had to keep Olvaerr on a short leash. Otherwise, his temper would all bring them peril.

”They all knew what they were getting into and what they agreed to when they travelled down south,” she responded with a huff, sounding more certain than she felt. The tribesmen were all proud people and the leaders were used to leading, keeping them in check already proved difficult. They didn’t bow down to her after all, they had their own tribes and their own customs. Nevertheless, Valkyrie relented a little. ”But yes, they will probably make it difficult. Any advice except stay alive, wise Shaman?”
