Espen sighed as he placed the shovel in the frozen ground, leaning on the thing with his entire weight and feeling how it sank further into the earth. It wasn’t that easy, digging a hole while it was this cold outside and the ground was pretty much frozen. Winter hadn’t even started yet. Espen threw the shovel to the side when he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. He reached for his belt, ready to grab his knife since his ax was planted in a tree a few meters away. His eyes found those of his brother and he turned around again, reaching for the shovel that had ended up next to the body of the black horse he was about to bury.

He had seen Espen leave with a shovel, even though it was none of his business what his brother would be doing with it. He was still a bit curious about it. Still he grabbed a shovel of his own, since he might be able to help and tracked his brother down. The first thing he noticed when he arrived was the body of a black horse lying beside a grave or what was to be a grave. "Could you use some help?" He asked while holding up his own shovel. It was cold, so the ground would be quite hard and not easy to dig into. It was also not like it was a small grave that Espen needed to dig and two extra pair of hands would help it be dug faster. Still if his brother didn't want his help he would stay aside and wait. It was all different now that their father wasn't here anymore and he did not even know how Espen felt about it, if he even felt something for the death of their father. Espen had always been a bit different, though he couldn't exactly place how.
