WE DRINK THE POISON OUR MINDS POUR FOR US
AND WONDER WHY WE FEEL SICK

Whispers on the street behind her back made Carmilla realise that there were still people busy with the sudden death of the former lord. Even though it had been months ago. By now she already had to get used to these whispers. After all she knew the whole story from what has happened. And those poor souls could only guess what had happened that day. Her brother had his father's blood on his hands, and so did she. He was the brawn and she the brains. Yet that was something that would never be spilled. At least not by her lips. They would take this into their graves. When that may be. In the meantime they both knew they had to choose their allies carefully and their enemies even more careful. One big mistake from one of them and their whole mask could come off. Not that she was planning on making any mistakes. But as the saying goes: small mistakes can have large consequences. And small mistakes are so easily made these days. Especially when you don't know who to trust.

But for now, allies were not her most important target. Right now all that was on her mind was her brother. His health, and making sure he would at least survive the winter that came. Of course he would. She had never doubted that. He was strong after all and her true hero, and the only one she had left in this rotten world. But just how much she did not doubted he would live for another day so afraid she was for losing him. Maybe it was selfish, because being alone in this world was not something she wanted. Maybe it was all out of love for her brother. Maybe both. She had met with the guy not too long ago. It was not someone she had expected, but she managed to stumble up on him on the streets anyway. A guy with an immortal heart. Someone who had lived for years and years even beyond any generation. It had interested her from the moment the word immortal had felt. What if it could save him? But what would his reaction be? She had to be careful about it for sure. But eventually she would bring it up anyway. After all she wanted him alive. Wether it be in human form or in the form of something immortal. Something more dangerous.

With the thoughts about the boy that crossed her mind her pace started to move faster and faster. Until the dark castle dimmed up into her blue gaze. And before long the lady made her way inside her home. The castle she hated, but loved anyway. Rhys? as she called for her brother with a certain curiousness in her voice. Hoping he was somewhere close.

ife hadn't been great hese past months. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. It made him feel more cursed than he maybe already was. But there was no stopping either. Rhysand was a Lord now, he had people to protect, to care for, to make sure that they wouldn't revolt and cut his head off or something. It truly was exhausting. The little vacation had done him good, but it hadn't been enough. Especially not with the way it had ended. It still spooked his mind and he would be lying if he didn't dream about it at night. As if the normal nightmares plagueing him weren't already enough.

The young Lord was seated in one of the more cozy sidechambers. A warm fire was glowing in the hearth and yet he was still cold. A side-effect of the poison. He couldn't even remember the last time he felt comfortable in his skin anymore. The sun had already set, darkness taking over the sky. There was more work to be done but he couldn't get his head into it. So, now he tried to at least relax a little, hoping it would give him some more time to get a clear head. But the sudden call of his name already drew the attention away from his thoughts. ''In here.'' He replied with a somewhat hoarse voice, putting the furs of his coat a little tighter around him. He hadn't spoken his sister since a few days now, it was good to hear from her again, better to see her. She always knew what to do in the end.

In here. hearing the familiar voice of her twin made an instant but subtle smile appear on her face. Of course he would be somewhere close. As he was mostly spending his day inside the castle anyway. Perhaps after all of this was behind them they should visit the capital. Or even south. She always wanted to see the hills of the Evergreen and the sandy beaches of Riverhold. What better to sight see it with her beloved brother.

His voice had drawn her to one of the side chambers of the castle. It was more cosy there, a bright fire lighting the dark surroundings and giving an orange glow to the paintings that were collected over the many years. Some were even older than her father had been. And they were mostly showed with faces she had never seen. How have you been? instantly wondering if he had actually managed to get some work done or if he was still feeling unwell. Milla reached for the button on her coat only to take it off. Placing the black fabric over one of the chairs. You look somewhat better. she pointed out. That is, since she saw him the last time. But that could change as quick as lightning. Slowly she set her pace in to get closer to the fire. Moving her hands towards the fireplace only to warm them up. It was one of the things she would never miss about the north. The sharp cold winds that could stain your body. Do you want me to get you anything? After all she could use some food or drink to warm herself.

y now it was no longer a hushed whisper on the streets. By now everyone knew that Rhysand wasn’t feeling well and that it had been going on since his father's death. Some spoke of heartbreak, but others had more poisonous whispers. They saw him as one of the culprits that poisoned his father, his sister and I were the people behind it all. Rhysand hoped with every vein in his body that the whispers would stay whispers. There was little more he could handle right now.

Seeing his sister enter did put a little smile on his face. No matter how urgent or dire the consequences, no matter what she did, he would protect her. The Lord shook his head but then corrected himself. ‘’Some wine would do good.’’ He said as he returned his gaze back to the fire. ‘’How have you been?’’ He’d escaped the castle for a few days, without a word. Carmilla probably hadn’t like that. But what could she do, he was the Lord here. There had been a lot of risks on that trip with Cirina, but he was happy with the time he had gotten with her. In fact, it hadn’t felt like enough and he wanted more. But instead he was locked inside a castle.
