The message had come unexpected. Then again, it wasn't like it was an event that could ever be predicted. The passing of Lord Lochlain had caused him to cancel all the plans he had made for the upcoming week. It was his duty to attend the funeral, to show support to the family of the late Lord. At the same time, House Lochlain had been a loyal ally to them for decades. He wanted to pay them the respect they deserved, not only as allies, but as friends to his family too. He knew his father would expect nothing less. The same day as he had received the raven, he had arranged his departure, leaving in the late afternoon.

Because the sooner he got there, the better. And he would not take the comfort of one more night in his own bed over the duty he had to fulfil. At least it was summer, which meant that they could take a ship. In winter, they would have to take the horses, which was a lot more uncomfortable than sailing.

At last, the Last Hearth came into sight. The crew started preparing to dock. He noticed how the people in the harbour were getting ready too. The sigil on the main sail was hard to miss, after all. As the ship was safely attached to the landing stage, he took his position in front of his family members, patiently waiting until the new Lord Lochlain invited them to disembark.

He had been busy ever since his father's death. He needed to make sure that everything was ready for his funeral and that raven's were sent to bring the news to the other houses. He had been able to prepare himself the last few days for what was to come, but he still felt a bit uneasy. He had known that one day he would take over from his father, but now that it had happened, he felt the weight of the responsibility he was suddenly carrying.
Someone had come to inform him that a ship carrying the banner of House Freyr was arriving, so he made his way over to the harbor to greet them. People were already helping to dock the ship and before long the ship was in place, attached to the landing stage. Once he was sure everything was done he stepped forwards and made a small bow to lord Freyr. "Welcome, Lord Freyr." Of course this welcome was also meant for the rest of his family. "I hope you've had a fine journey." If it hadn't been summer it would have been harder, he knew that. A ship would probably not even been able to get through the waters because of all the ice.

THE RISING SUN
sets the horizon ablaze。

It was not the first time Apollo was confronted with death, and it would certainly not be the last time. His time in the Keep had given him the opportunity to make adjustments to his plans. A war could be at their doorstep within the upcoming year. People would fight beneath the same banner he was looking at right now, and some would die for his cause. At the same time, he knew that most of his loyal banner men shared the same views and beliefs, so it was their cause as much as it was his.

The news, however, hit home in different ways. He had been around Lord Connor's age when he had succeeded his father as Warden of the North. He could relate to the struggle the young man was going through right now. Taking up those titles, it was hard work. But most importantly, they both had lost their father. He hid it well as he greeted him formally, just like Apollo had never really shared his sadness with anyone.

"Thank you, Lord Lochlain. It was as decent as it could be", He said. "I hoped to speak to your and your family in private, if that is possible", He then said. He wanted to offer his condolences in a more private setting, as it was a very sensitive topic.

It was good that the travels had been decent. It was still a ship after all and it was not for everyone. He himself actually liked it, maybe preferred it even over horseback, but he knew that during winter it was impossible to use them. Because of the ice it was impossible to get through with ships. But they had gotten used to it and the Last Hearth knew what they could do every season to survive. Now it was up to him to get them all through the next winter and he was glad that he still had some time to prepare before that time came.
He turned his attention to lord Freyr once the man spoke the next words and he nodded. "Of course," He answered. "If you would please follow me," He made sure that there would be people staying behind to help unload the stuff and sent someone ahead to gather his family members, since lord Freyr had asked to speak to them all. Once he made sure that lord Freyr would follow him he started to make his way towards the great hall. They would be able to have some privacy there and it was ideal to receive guests too. It wasn't that far of a walk towards the great hall and inside there was already a fire burning, making it comfortable inside. "Please take a seat." He told lord Freyr while taking a seat himself. Now it was just waiting till everyone whom needed to be here had arrived.

use your knowledge
and your heart
to stand up for those that can't stand, speak for those that can't speak, be a beacon of light for those whose lives have become dark.

It had only been a few days since her father had passed away and her brother had been carrying the weight of being a lord on his own. The young girl had been hiding away in her own room most of the time, if she was not kept busy by her teachers. She missed her father, a lot and as such did not wish to show her face at certain gatherings. At six years old she was too young to understand the prospect of dying, she knew he would not come back, however it was hard to understand why. Her brother was busy, and as such she would not keep him away from his responsibilities, no matter how much she wanted to climb upon his lap and hide near him. She knew that someone of house Freyr would come, and her father had always made her understand the importance of that house. As such she had made a small gift, nothing much nor perfect but something that was quite sweet and showed the important bonds between both houses. The young girl had been gathered by one of the servants, whom had been notified that a certain lord had arrived. The young girl had hidden her gift away in one of her pockets after which she had followed the servant towards the great hall where a fire had been burning. Her eyes skipped towards the tall man that was if she remembered correctly, Lord Freyr. Her eyes then shortly met her brother's before she moved towards both men.

Her voice was soft and trembled slightly when she approached them. She presented herself with a curtsy. 'Lord Freyr,' She whispered hoarsly, it showed her sadness as well as her eyes could. Slowly she reached inside her pocket after which she presented him with an embroidered handkerchief. The shield of House Freyr was carefully put together, for a child at least. The stitches were not as neat as one that had practiced for years, however for a six year old it was quite a masterwork. His name was also embroidered under it, in neat stitches that had clearly taken hours to make although on the A and first L she had made a small mistake. She smiled shyly before she pressed her gift softly in his hand after which she moved closer towards her older brother and grabbed his hand. Her blue eyes were kind but sad, it was clear that she had cried not too long ago. Not that one could not understand that for someone her age still was not up to hiding away their emotions, something that one did learn in the North after a while. The child was simply too young and innocent, although it was clear that she had been up to date about their links with House Freyr. Her teachers had done a great job and had allowed her to work on her gift in their classes as it was clear she needed something to do. The only reason she had finished it was that she had started a few months before, as she wanted to make something for House Freyr, for when they reconnected again. It was something that was bound to happen sooner or later, although this was a lot sooner then expected. She did not take a seat, and only stood next to her brother, waiting for both men to speak. She had nothing to say, and knew that after the first few words she probably had to leave with one of the servants again and wait for them to finish their business.

THE RISING SUN
sets the horizon ablaze。

Attending the funeral was an important task. It was the respect the late Lord deserved, after all. He also wanted to show his support to those who were left behind. Going through a period of grief was hard enough as it was, but for a family that held such responsibility, it was even more rough. A shift in power could cause trouble, no matter how established the name of that House was. There could always be an uprising, people trying to take advantage of the situation. By showing up to the funeral, he showed House Freyr stood firmly behind Lord Connor to become the new head of his House.

Following the young man inside, he kept his gaze focussed on the man in front of him. He didn't pay much attention to the crowd that had gathered. Those were not his priority right now. He took a seat when invited to, after which he waited for his family to sit down as well. Not too long after, a child was brought into the room. She greeted him with a voice that betrayed she had been crying. She sounded tired, but he couldn't blame her. Unexpectedly, she pulled out a piece of cloth, on which the shield of House Freyr as well as his name was embroidered. It was clear she had made it herself, but it was decent work nonetheless. "Thank you, Lady Linnéa. It is a fine piece of work you made here", He said, pulling up a gentle smile as he did. He then turned his attention to the room in general again.

"On behalf of House Freyr I offer my sincerest condolences for the loss of Lord Arvyd", He said. "We will remember him as a fierce warrior and a strong leader. May Yunuen light his way home", He went on. "I understand it might not be easy dealing with business in such a dark period. Anything you need, Lord Connor, you only ask and I will see to make arrangements", He added. He wasn't expecting trouble, yet at the same time, he was. It was easier to be prepared for it this way.

Soon enough everyone had gathered and taken a seat. It made everything all the more real and even more so when his younger sister walked up to Lord Freyr and offered him a gift. It might not have been much, but it had been something for Linnéa to keep her focus on and he was grateful for it. After all with all the changes he didn't have as much time as before for her. Once he got used to everything he would make sure to make some time for her again. He waited patiently till Linnéa came back and took a place at his side. He squeezed her hand softly for a moment before turning his attention back to lord Freyr.
It was true that when a leader died and another took over a lot could go wrong. Of course he was not planning on showing any weakness, but he knew that it was a question if everyone would follow him. For now he foresaw no problems even though some might arise in the future. "Thank you Lord Freyr." He thanked the man on behalf of everyone present. "If any troubles may arise I will make sure to contact you." But of course he hoped it wouldn't be necessary. "The funeral will be held tomorrow." The preparations were almost done, so that should be fine. "Would you like something to eat or drink?" They were still his guests after all and he wouldn't be a good host if he didn't offer them food or drinks even in this situation.

Her brother had told her about their guest. An important one, and her father before him, had taught her a lot about House Freyr. The had sworn fealty towards them, and as such lived as friends. That was as far as the young girl could understand it, her father had always told her that they were important and as such she treated him with respect and kindness. Besides that, making a gift such as she had, had taken time. Time that she could not spend being sad and miserable because she had a job to do. It was something that could help her through her grieve and her teachers had been lenient when she had showed them her wishes. 'Thank you, Lady Linnéa. It is a fine piece of work you made here' The head of house Freyr said, pulling the corner of his mouth up in a small smile. A gentle look that seemed to fit him. The child smiled shyly before she bowed her head in a respectful and kind manner. 'You're welcome Lord Freyr.' She whispered before she took her place next to her older brother. She took no seat, as she knew that the things that would be mentioned, were not for her ears. She was too young and would not understand half of it, instead she would stay here only as long as her brother allowed.

'On behalf of House Freyr I offer my sincerest condolences for the loss of Lord Arvyd', He said. Lord Arvyd had been her father, she had never used that name unless she had to tell others that he was an important man. 'We will remember him as a fierce warrior and a strong leader. May Yunuen light his way home', He went on. Home? Wasn't home with family? She missed him, was her home now a different place as well? The child did not know what to make of it, however she remained silent while she grabbed her brother's hand a little fiercer. 'I understand it might not be easy dealing with business in such a dark period. Anything you need, Lord Connor, you only ask and I will see to make arrangements', He would help her brother if the need arose. That made him fit in her good graces, she liked him. Linnéa had yet to learn something that might not be good about the man in front of her. Her brother squeezed her hand softly, sharing some of his strength with her. 'Thank you Lord Freyr.' He thanked the man on behalf of everyone of their family that was present during this part of the conversation. The young girl sighed softly, it was hard on her to remain silent and without her father's reassurance. Especially since her brother had to keep up his strong facade. 'If any troubles may arise I will make sure to contact you.' He answered, his voice calm but speaking true about himself and his house.'The funeral will be held tomorrow.' The child whimpered softly, she did not know what to think about the funeral, she disliked the idea of having to think about her father's dead even more. An entire day focused upon his passing and her brother's new lordship. 'Would you like something to eat or drink?' Her brother asked after that, making sure to be a good host.

'Brother?' She whispered softly. 'Do you think Lord Freyr needs another fur for his room? It can be quite cold at night.' Her voice was soft but loud enough to be overheard by the others that were present. 'I can find some more and maybe bring something for you to eat and drink back with me, before I have my other lessons.' She knew that some of the servants would try to eavesdrop, not that they would manage to do so, however having Lord Freyr around always got them more attention. Everyone knew that House Freyr was important and he was their Leader. Being in his good graces could be important, however the North also had need of a House that would not be walked over. The Last Hearth was no place for the weak, especially during winters. One needed to be able to be fierce and strong.

THE RISING SUN
sets the horizon ablaze。

The priority of this visit was to show House Lochlain and the new Lord the support of House Freyr. Aside from that, he wanted to attend the funeral as well. It was an important ritual. He would not insult the Gods by skipping it, nor would he disrespect Lord Arvyd by not being present when he made his final journey home. His father would roll over in his own grave if he found out. Especially after he had not been present on the late Lord Corbin's funeral, now was the time to show he still cared about his people. He did not want them to think he had declined the invitation on purpose.

In the name of his House, he offered his condolences and support to Lord Connor and his family. He was informed the funeral would take place tomorrow. He waited until Linnéa was done speaking to her brother before he turned his attention to him again. "I believe it would be best if we had dinner all together. For now, perhaps your servants could show my family their rooms. I would like for us to go on a walk through the city. There are a few matters I wish to discuss with you", He replied to his question. First and foremost, Connor was a young man mourning his father, but he was also the new Lord, and therefore he had duties to fulfil as well.
