Joost Dahlström - Ik heb een kater maar ik ben een honden mens, ik ben Helvetica en jij bent Comic Sans scandinavian boy Time had come for him to pay his sister his weekly visit. Since he'd moved to Caer Scion, he tried to visit his sister and her husband every week. Sometimes he wasn't able to make it, but most of the time he tried really hard to go over and spend some quality time with them and his little nephew. The young man left his hometown in the early afternoon so he could make it to the White Woods before the sun had completely set.

The young man was slightly shivering when he arrived at his sister's house, so he rushed the care of his horse and put the animal in a stable. He knocked on the door and soon after that the three were sitting at the table in the kitchen, drinking some mead and sharing stories. His nephew had gone to bed already, but Joost would say hi in the morning. With a smile on his face he spent the next couple of hours enjoying the company of Anna and Leif. At first, he had hated the husband of his sister but now they were friends, even though there was a big age gap. His sister was fifteen years older than him, which was already crazy considering the fact he himself was twenty-one. After a last glass of mead, the young man went to bed. He'd go for a nice walk in the woods the next day, but he wouldn't bring Donnie with him. Joost wanted to be alone in the woods for a while.

The next morning Joost was waken up by the sun that ever so poetically casted a few sunrays onto his face. He groaned and got up, preparing himself for the cold walk in the forest. He put a dagger in his boot and off he went. He wasn't much of a morning person, but as soon as the cold air hit his cheeck, he felt awake. While buttoning up the jacket he was wearing, he started to make his way through the forest. He wasn't planning on getting lost, so he paid attention to where he was going. The man stopped near a little frozen lake and carefully tried to see if the ice was thick enough to walk on. With his hands in his pockets he skated over the ice, trying to maintain his balance.

It was strange, how she knew so many people who had no clue who she was. The journeys of her spirit were separated from her body’s, her mind traveling in the shape of cats, dogs and everything alike. She had spent nights with so many people, asleep in their warm beds, listening to the whispers of truths that they could only speak to those who did not dare speak back. Apollo Freyr had been one of those people. She wondered if she could help him. Maybe some day, when they would find each other face to face. She could show him a smile and tell him that it was all okay - that he was all his family had and that they were proud of him. But she probably wouldn’t be able to find the words.

It had been busy, however, and the social contact had worn her out. She found herself in the forests more often than not, ever since she had returned home again. After spending so much time in the flesh of animals, she had missed her own body, causing her to walk by a frozen lake in her own skin, dressed in furs of animals she had hunted down herself. On her back was a bow, with the rest of her tools and equipment by her horse, further down the road.

Her eyes fell upon a blonde man, skating over the ice. A soft chuckle left her mouth as she realized who he was. She carefully stepped onto the frozen lake as well, her blue eyes trailing the man as he seemed to enjoy himself on the ice, as she herself meanwhile stepped forward. Her arms were pointed out as she tried to keep her balance, which seemed remarkably hard on the ice.

Joost Dahlström - Ik heb een kater maar ik ben een honden mens, ik ben Helvetica en jij bent Comic Sans scandinavian boy He hadn't expected it to be soo peaceful in the woods. Just because he visited his sister every week didn't mean that he also went for a weekly walk. It had been quite a while since he'd walked through the White Woods. When he was a little boy, he had played a lot in the forest. Mostly alone, because his sister claimed that she was too old to make fun. It had only been three years since he moved away to Caer Scion, but it felt like a century ago.

When he saw the frozen lake, he immediately thought of ice skating. That was something he hadn't done since he was about fifteen years. He smiled slightly and headed towards the lake. It was probably not a very deep lake, but as he stepped onto the ice the thought of falling through and drowing did cross his mind for a second. He thought he heard something behind him while he was trying to maintain his balance so he carefully turned around. His eyes fell upon a familiar face. Joost smiled at the red headed girl who was pointing out her arms. He slowly skated towards her, keeping that smile on his face. "Look who we have here." He put his hands on her shoulders and squeezed lightly in a caring manner before putting his hands back in his pockets because his fingers were freezing. He met Maer back when he still lived in Aeldun. They'd helped each other a lot of times, trading weapons for hunting knowledge but he hadn't seen her in a few months. "How have you been?" he asked, not sure if she'd even reply with words. Their conversations were fairly one-sided, but the yound man didn't mind that at all. He knew Maer didn't like talking that much, and he talked so much that he could talk for the both of them.

There was a strange habit for people. They had completely lost the ability to speak without words, finding the need to explain everything with their tongue. Maer, who spent a lot of her time in the body of the forest, had never really felt this need. She had always been more quiet than her twin sister, who seemed to go on and on, explaining every single thing. Maer just… let it happen. If someone did not try to understand her language, why would she use theirs?

A soft smile appeared on her face when Joost put his hands on her shoulders. While people often confused her behaviour for shyness, she was not. She didn’t feel uncomfortable with his touch. He asked how she had been and for a moment she looked around, before the smile came back on her lips once more. “Good,” she answered, short as ever. Her voice always felt strange, as if it did not belong to her, as if she simply listened to someone else speaking her thoughts. Raising her brows, she tilted her head slightly to the side. The slight raise of her brow was her way of returning the question. She liked listening to other people talk, as long as it wasn’t too much and there weren’t too many. With Joost, however, she was comfortable.

Joost Dahlström - Ik heb een kater maar ik ben een honden mens, ik ben Helvetica en jij bent Comic Sans scandinavian boy Joost was happy to see Maer again. She was a very unique person but weirdly they got along pretty well, even though they were opposites. He'd always wondered how she didn't get super annoyed by his personality. But here they were, standing in front of each other on a frozen lake, trying to maintain balance while being reunited. He had squeezed her shoulders and asked her how she was doing. The blonde boy wasn't sure if she'd reply, but he heard a short 'good' coming from her lips. He smiled and noticed that she was returning the question by making a facial expression. "In short: I've been good aswell." The man moved away and decided to skate the ice a bit while he was going on a rant about his life. "But it's more complicated than that. I'm visiting my sister and her husband again and it's made me realise I miss living here. Caer Scion is great and I love the place and the people, but it's not the Last Hearth. It's not you, Maer, and it's not my family." Joost sighed and skated towards his friend again and moved his arms up and down a few times to prevent himself from falling while trying to stand still on the slippery ice. "And there are no woods, can you imagine?" He let the horror of the words roam free, he wasn't trying to not be dramatic. As a Highland boy, borned and raised in the Last Heart, he needed the woods. He also enjoyed hunting thanks to Maer and in Caer Scion hunting was barely possible.

Opposites were said to attract. Maer had thought about this for a while, but she was sure she finally understood why it was this way. Joost talked. A lot. Yet, she didn’t. It allowed them to combine what they liked doing. She liked listening to someone, yet he enjoyed talking. While one would think it was a strange combination, his monologues allowed her to be quiet without the situation turning weird. She could just stand there, listen, and reply when needed. He understood what she meant when she refrained from using words and it was nice. Though he was a bit peculiar.

Keeping her feet in place seemed difficult as they were sliding around, yet she seemed to manage herself quite well. Watching him move over the ice caused her to chuckle softly, the chuckle turned into a laugh when he moved his arms wildly in an effort not to fall. She couldn’t imagine leaving the North, though she wanted to. To roam around, to see woods she had never seen before. To run across the lands in the body of a horse, wind in her manes… It was a dream she wasn’t sure she could ever fulfill. But then his last words sounded.

What?” she asked. As always, her voice was rather soft, yet it should be loud enough for him to hear. No forests? That sounded terrible. “Then…” Forgetting she was standing upon ice, she wanted to take a step forward, sliding and dropping on her ass onto the ice, a high-pitched sound leaving her mouth as she made her way down. “Oh!” she let out in surprise. Why were human bodies so damn hard to control? She couldn’t stand on ice on two feet. She needed four, but her body wasn’t made to walk on all fours.
