Caer Scion's High House

Due to inactivity of the current High House, we have opened up the position. Keep in mind that House Freyr is an established House, so we will be asking for a plot on how the new House will take over this position and how this will change the political situation in the North.

To apply, simply fill in the code at the bottom of this message. Make sure we won't have any questions on how the transition will happen, why it will happen and why this house becomes the new High House. This is all up to you. Is the new High Lord/-Lady chosen by the King, or people from the far North looking to make the Highlands their home? Be creative!

Do keep in mind that the plot needs to fit with the demotion of House Freyr and as of such, might be changed slightly when chosen. Of course, we'll make sure to discuss this with both the current Lord Freyr and the new ruler.

You can find information on the current High House, which you'll be replacing, down below.

lord apollo freyr
lady delaney freyr
heir mercury freyr
liegehouse aldyr
vassalsHouse Corbin, House Laighin.

“In the heat of winter.”

For over five hundred years, House Freyr has ruled the Highlands with an iron fist. It does not always make them the most popular family around. People know that their reign is fair and just though. They only punish when the accused is proven guilty. Once they have enough proof, punishment is harsh. But it is all with the well-being of the people in mind. And for that reason, they respect the House regardless of their strict policy. To ensure the Highlands continue to be the strong entity they are, the Lord is assisted by his small council. Members of the council are chosen by the Lord and are often people that have proved to be trustworthy and experienced in important matters such as warfare, intelligence and bookkeeping.

House Freyr “In the heat of winter.”

overview

lord Vulcan Freyr
lady looking for
heir Jupiter Freyr
seat Caer Scion

Caer Scion is known for their extremely high quality weapons and armor. The Cursed Reach and the Iron Ridge provide much needed raw materials like iron and carbon, but also obsidian. The harsh conditions in the mountain range, being snow and ice, are ideal for another expensive resource to develop deep beneath the rock. Crystal. With the proper skill and tools, crystal can be crafted into breathtaking necklaces and rings. Because the material is more rare, there is not much room for making mistakes while practicing. Therefore, the gems are only trusted to the most skilled craftsmen. This means that their main source of income is still the weapons and armor, which they export throughout the realm.

politics

liege Royal house Aldyr
vassals house corbin, house laighin
alliances House Vigneron, House Sylversword

The bond with house Aldyr is quite rocky from time to time. Mainly because north detests south. Something that lives as strongly under the Freyr’s as under the people that live in the Highlands. But it’s a bond that is uphold for as long as memory serves.

The relationship with both of these houses is different. While house Vigneron is connected to them through marriage they are supporting them in whatever may happen in the future. It’s a strong and important alliance that runs through Jupiter Freyr his wedding to Ophelia Vigneron.  House Sylversword isn’t connected by blood, but by the spoken word of Lady Adeena and the former lord Apollo. Both of the regions so close to each other, means that they support each other in matters that are more close to the people living in both of their regions.

city

Built against the northern part of the Iron ridge, the city itself is naturally protected by its peaks. They are surrounded by empty landscapes which are covered in snow most of the time. The Silver Tear finds its source near the city, running right alongside the city walls, providing them with fresh water. Along the city walls multiple watchtowers watch our over the plains to keep enemies out.

One of the most prominent buildings is the castle. Located in the middle of the city surrounded by another wall. The vast majority of the houses in Caer Scion are built out of limestones, decorated with lumber. The houses vary in size and in looks as well the more prominent houses are in way better shape than the houses of the lower districts. A part of the city near the castle is held by the barracks, they fall outside the castle walls. Training fields nearby. As far as shops, inns, taverns, blacksmiths and brothels go, they are spread out through the city.

family

lord Vulcan Freyr
lady TBA
children -
other Manea, Jupiter, Apollo, Delaney, etc

The Freyr family seems like a family that is rather stoic. They don’t really show that much love or affection towards each other. Not in public at least. Yet they would put themselves on the line for their people at any  given moment. They rely on each other, even if they don’t show it.

history

Once upon a time, in times long past, Ivan of House Elovyr was banished by his father. This was, in the eyes of the young man, completely unjust. Never had he done something wrong, yet he was punished for a crime he had not yet committed. But, he knew that there was no use denying his fate. Assembling his few people against the army of the King, would only result in a certain death. And thus, he traveled North. He kept going North, all the way up to the Highlands. The snow covered the area, leaving it a perfect white. That’s where they settled; shielded by snow. Caer Scion, home to the rightful heir, was set up on that day. And it was a day that they would always remember. Up until this day, February 26th is celebrated as the day of the “First Stone”, where the city’s first stone was placed, to accommodate their new city. He changed his last name, separating himself from the traitor that was his father.

There is no other House in history that has been treated as unfairly as House Freyr. Descending from a banished royal heir, the House in the North has a deep hatred for the people living in the Southern regions. Not once, but twice they have been betrayed by other Houses. They were the first House to raise their army against the Bone Sorcerer King, and in doing so risking the lives of good men. All for the greater good; as they had foreseen the disaster that was about to happen. They were right. Freyr knew this, the North knew this, but the South was stubborn as it always had been.

For this reason, the feelings of dislike are completely mutual. Usually, the Southerners are not quite thrilled when tales of the North spread throughout the realm. Because to this day still, House Freyr holds on to their claim to the throne. Especially after the rebellion. Alas, they were not rewarded for their efforts. Once more they were sent back North. The invaders, with their dragons, had enforced a man who had no right to claim the throne to begin with. With the power of the beasts to support him, and the fact that it had been the dragon riders who had eradicated the army of the dead in the end being to his advantage, Loran Aldyr was crowned King. After this horrendous insult, Lord Freyr returned home and started plotting his next move. He was not willing to accept his defeat and losing the throne twice.

The same goes for all the descendants of the House. Children of the Lord and Lady, and especially their heirs, are raised with the same disdain of the traitorous South. The belief that they are still the rightful rulers of Avalance is passed down the bloodline to this day. And with Apollo on the seat of the Lord, it is more likely than ever that this House will move forward. For in Apollo, one can see the original sinner, he who had traveled North and set up House Freyr. They have the same pale blue eyes, gazing into the endless landscape of snow, plotting how to get back what is rightfully theirs.

After the birth of Mercury Freyr, Apollo his focus seemed to shift from his duties towards his wife and son. So he decided that he wasn’t fit right now to remain a lord, his mind had shifted of constantly being focused on everything that involved being a Lord to his newborn son and wife. Thereby  discussed with both his brothers that he would resign his position so one of them to take over. With taking into consideration that Jupiter never really wanted to be the High Lord, Vulcan was pushed forward as the next inline. Hereby being legitimized by the head of the house. Right before the conclusion of Jupiter becoming master of Alliances, an letter from house Vigneron came, summoning Jupiter to the Evergreen. With that in mind Apollo and his older brother stepping up he resigned from his duty and went on a journey with his wife and son.

house frydenlund Better to die with honor than live with shame

overview

lord Refr Frydenlund
lady tbc
heir tbc
seat Caer scion

House Frydenlund will be a new house to Avalance and from the start they will be seen as quite a cruel house. This for how they came onto the highlands for the first time and how they have risen to power there. They originate from the north and are plunderers by blood after all, but they did it all to have a place to settle. Still now that they will have a place to settle, they will do everything to defend it. Traitors will be punished harshly and if anyone were to even try to invade or attack them, none would be left alive. However once you have made an alliance with them, they will always honor it and help where possible.

Once they have settled in Caer Scion they will put up all kinds of trade routes, mainly with the rest of Avalance, but also with the North. They still have some connections there after all, so they will make use of that. There main trade will be hides from all kinds of animals that can be found in the highlands. Besides that they also trade in all kinds of food, weapons and other things.

The sigil of House Frydenlund will be an arctic fox on a dark blue background. The arctic fox is because their family has always raised arctic foxes and every member of the family has their own arctic fox who is loyal to them.

Their words 'Better to die with honor than live with shame' are because of their own faith. They believe that when you die with honor you will be able to enter 'valhalla', however once you have brought shame upon yourself, this won't be possible anymore.

politics

liege house Aldyr
vassals House Corbin, House Laighin
alliances The North

For their vassals they may be a source of fear, however once these vassals have pledged their loyalty to House Frydenlund they will fall under their protection. So House Frydenlund will do everything to protect their own vassals even if this is against the rest of Avalance for example. The highlands will belong to House Frydenlund after all and they will do anything to protect what is theirs.

As for their relation to their liege, it will greatly depend on how they will be seen by their liege. If their liege accepts the fact that they have taken over the highlands and are to settle there and will not go further into Avalance, then they can have a certain understanding. House Frydenlund will pledge their loyalty to their liege then and will honor that loyalty to their liege when it is needed. The other option can be that they are seen as intruders and that the relations between House Frydenlund and their liege will be strained. They won't pledge their loyalty, but will still occupy the highlands. It will take time before trust will be build that way.

Further because they will mostly be trading as their source of income, they will have to build a lot of connections, throughout Avalance, but also beyond that to other continents. But since they will be new in Avalance and to this trade they will only have a connection with the North in the beginning, however the intention is that this will grow with time.

city

In the beginning a lot of the city will be burned down, after the plundering of House Frydenlund. Because of this most of the city will be rebuild in the way that House Frydenlund has always build their cities. One thing that will remain the same in Caer Scion is the castle, however beside it their will be build a big longhouse with a huge fireplace in the middle, where all the feasts will be held. Often there can be found people drinking in the evening, especially for special occasions. Further around the castle and longhouse there will be multiple houses build, houses made out of wood and clay. These houses are where the people of Caer Scion live. In one part of the city, all the shops will be centered. You can find here shops like a blacksmith, a bakery, a butcher, etc. Besides this there is a big square where there is room for a market. Here merchants who came to trade can set up their tents and sell products. Around the whole city there will be a wall, protecting the city from attackers. It has a few watchposts, from where attackers can be seen. At one part the wall is open, this leads to the harbor with the shipyard and the harbor. Here lay the longships for trading and this is also the place where they are build. Furthermore this is also the place where merchants can dock with their ships when they come to trade. The marketplace is right beside it, so it is easy to access.

family

lord Refr Frydenlund
lady tbc
children tbc
other tbc

The Frydenlund family is very loyal and honest. Especially when it somes to their own family. They will always help each other where possible. However once someone betrays them, they will never forgive them, whether they are family or not. That person will be hunted down and killed. The family has a tradition of each member getting an Arctic fox cub when they become sixteen. Most members will also have a nickname, with which they will be more often called then their last name.

history

The Frydenlund family has already been around for hundreds of years. They have always lived in the North, where they started as a small farmstead at first. It started with Thor & Astrid Frydenlund. They eloped and went their own way and settled in a small farmstead. They had two children together, which both started another family of their own. This way the family kept growing and the farmstead with it.

After a few generations the small farmstead had grown into a village. Bjorn Frydenlund and his wife Ingrid were the ones at the head of the family this time. The village was bustling with life, however they started to notice that they weren't having enough food anymore for everyone in the village. They had to find a bigger place where they could settle down, but until that place had been found there would be only one way to get more supplies to come by. They would need to start plundering other villages nearby. By plundering the other villages, they made them fear them. This is why Bjorn Frydenlund got to be known as Bjorn the cruel.

It wasn't until their son Harold Frydenlund took over that they found a bigger place to settle down. It was the size of a small city and had enough room for everyone from the village. However Harold Frydenlund and some others had gotten the taste of plundering and wouldn't stop with it even though they had found a new place to settle. They didn't go as often to raid villages and even cities sometimes, however it was still often enough that here too they were feared.

In the end his grandson Leif Frydenlund had enough of all the plunderings. Instead of spreading fear he and his wife Gunhild started trading with the villages instead of raiding them. They spread a whole network of trades through the north, making sure there would be enough food for everyone. Because of this Leif Frydenlund became known as Leif the trader. He went for the peaceful way and made connections everywhere in the North.

However his son Refr Frydenland and a lot of his people were fed up with the North. They knew there was more on the other side of the frozen abyss and they wanted to see what was there and possibly settle there too. Refr Frydenlund build his own ships and gathered all the people who would want to come with him. It took him a few years, but once he was 27 he finally had enough gathered and decided that this would be the moment to cross the frozen abyss and see what was on the other side.

This is how Refr Frydenlund together with his people arrives in the highlands. Refr Frydenlund got known as Refr the traveler for this. They start raiding villages once they have arrived, gathering information for a good place to settle. Through this information they learn of Caer Scion and the family who rules that city and with it the whole highlands. Refr Frydenlund sees this as the perfect opportunity and knows that if they are able to take Caer Scion they will have the whole highlands for themselves. He also knew they would be able to put up all kinds of trade routes then, with the rest of this land, Avalance as he had gathered from the information.

He decides to attack Caer Scion to try and become the lord of the highlands. More information about my ideas for this part can be found under 'plot idea'.

Religion

House Frydenlund and its people will have their own religion. They have after all grown up in the North because of which they have taken their religion with them. It will be a lot like what the vikings believe in. So there will be multiple gods and some kind of 'valhalla' that they believe in. Because of this they will believe that it is better to die with honor than to live with shame. Dying in battle will be the biggest honor of them all. But this is something I will type out completely if this house is accepted.

Plot idea

So my idea for this plot will be that Refr Frydenlund and his people will be looking for a place to settle. At first they will be raiding a few villages once they arrive in the highlands. This is to get information of a good place to settle. Because of this house Freyr will probably already have heard about Refr and his people. However at one point they will receive the information that they need and will be told that the city that is leading the highlands is Caer Scion.

At that point in time they will travel to Caer Scion to take it for themselves. Refr will see it as the perfect way to gain a good place to settle and to have enough land to provide the people he has brought with him. He will attack Caer Scion, however how this battle will go and how the ending will be, is something I would like to discuss with the player of Lord Freyr.
