"Sometimes I feel like a monster, but I know what’s best for you."
Nikos is not the kind of person to stand out in a crowd. Rather, he’s like an old song you know all the words to. The one song you keep returning to without ever knowing, singing along with its lyrics before even realizing it is on. He’ll be the friend you take for granted, the one person to always be there, even if you don’t deserve it.

This endless compassion comes from his mother, who has taught him the values of life. Whenever life was at its worst, when they had to leave their home and when he lost his father, his mother had grabbed his shoulders, pulled him close and hushed him softly. “Remember this feeling,” she would tell him. And he did. It allows him to channel an inner grief, a pain that allows him to deeply and truly feel for someone - to devote himself to being there for them. Sometimes, a bit too much.

While Nikos might not be a present soul, his mind is active at all times. He has always had trouble focussing, either going into hyperfocus or being distracted by everything and everyone around him. He knows no in between.

"Let me be everything you need to feel alright."
Nikos lived his early years unaware of the issues his family faced. On the surface, they were a perfect little family. A mother, a father, a son and a little later, a daughter too. Their story was one of love - where two people had found their perfect match. Of course, there were fights, but never in front of the children. His mother had never lived a life of money, while his father had known nothing but riches. Yet, they made it work. Or, that was how it seemed.

What Nikos, nor the people around them, did not know was that his father was part of a family of crime. He had dropped this during the worst part of their marriage, right after she had fallen pregnant to their second baby. They figured it out and together, left the Evergreen. They would live a fair life together in Dragonwatch. While the money would be less, they would live a life worth remembering in a world their children could grow up in.

Years passed and the family had settled in the city. Their little shop became popular throughout the city and the places surrounding it. It was a diverse shop that combined their skills. His mother had always been creative and his father knew his way around locks. The decision to open up a shop as an arkwright and lockmaker’s combination had come easy. Nothing would get through their locks and their chests had the most amazing detail.

Yet, a tiger doesn’t lose its stripes and a Cascioferro doesn’t lose his eye for business. Over the years, the man started doing business with more and more shady folk, getting himself beaten up from time to time when he couldn’t follow up on the promises he had made. A time of fighting started and eventually, Liliana threatened to take the children away from him and leave.

A compromise was made and at the age of seventeen, Nikos was forced to move to the Ruby Bay with his parents - far away from the people he owed money to. This was when everything started changing for the worse. For a while, things seemed alright, but Nikos was now old enough to see underneath the surface. His mother was agitated, his father keeping secrets. The man was out late at night doing things only the Gods would know, coming home exhausted, often drunk, and sleeping until noon. Nikos was forced to help out in the shop when his father couldn’t be bothered to.

Nikos started spending more and more time away from home, slowly getting to know someone related to his father. He didn’t think anything of it at first. It was nice to get to know a part of his father’s family, to finally have someone who… understood him. But this blessing was of short duration, as everything went to hell and back when his mother found out. She fought about it with his father and forbade him to ever speak to a Cascioferro again. Nikos, believing every word his mother told him, did what was asked of him.

Time went on and things got worse. His parents fought at every chance they got, now both often storming off to not be found for the rest of the day. He was left tending the store with his sister, but customers didn’t feel as welcome anymore and the business started falling apart. His father was angry continuously, starting to drink again while his mother was picking a fight over the smallest things. The two of them were rarely found in the same room anymore and Nikos and his sister just tried to keep things running.

One night, their father didn’t return home. His body was found the next day. Things spiralled further down as his mother collapsed and he was left to take care of their shop, his mother and his sister, all the while pushing down the grief he wasn’t allowed to feel. He quickly found out that he couldn’t do all of this by himself. The store suffered and as time continued, could hardly keep up with their expenses anymore.

That’s when Nikos was faced with an opportunity.
