Rage. There was nothing else that he was feeling anymore except the purest form of rage. The sadness had been driven out the moment he had heard about the poisoning from Vesper. After his meeting with his Lord, he was ready to actually go pack his bags and just leave. Though there was still some stuff he needed to take care of with the recruits, mainly asking Manea if she would take over in his absence and keep everyone in one piece preferably. But on his way to the barracks he had been met by someone he didn’t know, or well not on a personal level. A man, a young man, maybe just turned twenty or something. And honestly he just wanted to push that kid out of the way and go on with his business.

Until he stated his name. Shortly he looked at the lad and frowned. Taking him back to a few years ago. Prior to him becoming the Lord Commander he had been in a squadron off course, and a few of them had been planning something down a bit further down south. Something that had seemed relatively small but had ended up in something completely different. The dead of two people, prominent people on the rise even. His blue eyes trailed over the letter telling that same exact story yet described into detail and he could feel an ice cold grip around his throat. Guilt washing over him for a few seconds. The talking of the lad falling to the background completely. Maléna Cascioferro. He had never seen the woman in the first place, but as words from the younger guy slipped forward he looked up again. Could she have figured out where a few of those guys came from? Who was their captain at the time? Guilt was washed away with an intense wave of anger. Had she been the reason for Lenox to end up in a grave? For Willa running away? Anger seemed to flare in his chest and he pushed the lad out of the way.

Big steps towards the barracks, but that was when he spotted Manea. On the training field, swinging her sword at a clearly unwilling recruit. ’Head’s up.’ Without saying much more he had unsheathed his blade and in a big swing slashed it towards her.

The battle had left her wounded, wounded to such capacity that she had been unable to move for a couple of days. The raven had been able to get up just in time for her to attend her half-brother’s wedding and the memorial service they had held for the fallen warriors. After that a long period of recovery had started. It had taken weeks and Manea had gotten more and more annoyed at her incapability at doing anything with each day that passed. The moment she had been able to hold a sword without dropping to the ground like a ragdoll, she had started training again, probably hurting herself way more than was necessary in the process. It hadn’t been healthy but if she couldn’t vent by swinging her sword, she simply got dangerous to be around, so Apollo and Vesper had allowed it.

By now the broken bones had healed and the wounds had faded into dark red scars on her body, but she still felt the ache in her chest every now and then. Not than she minded, she just powered through it until her breath got completely cut off by her body. It had started happening less and less these past couple of days as she had picked up sparring with recruits again. Even that day, she had picked up one of the wooden swords and picked one at random before commanding the others that they should go inside if they didn’t want to get splattered with blood. It had been a joke, but neither her sparring partner nor his colleagues had seen it as that.

For a while now the recruit had been under her scrutiny, but he had gotten better. Better at defense that was as he didn’t have the guts nor the time to shift into offense. The wood splintered as it hit the recruit’s training sword and she grinned, tongue darting over her lip, this was fun. Then she heard it, the scrunching of boots on the training field. ’Heads up’ the commander’s voice boomed. Without missing a beat, she put the wooden version in a defensive stance, swiveling around as she unsheathed her own sword with her other hand. Being able to wield your weapon with two hands was a big upside. His blade smacked down on hers and the sheer force behind it rippled through her body while the recruit yelped and made himself scarce. Putting a foot behind her for more support, she pushed Alec off and took a couple of steps back, throwing away the sparring sword. ”You should yell heads down next time commander, you almost decapitated the kid,” she spoke in her typical cold tone, before launching at him.

Right now it did matter who he had in front of him. It would matter because the chance of more blood sticking to his hands was rather big if the wrong one would stand in front of him. So yes, seeing Manea was something that he considered as good. There weren’t much people, no, there were only two people who could actually take his force and that was she and her half-brother. Though now enraged by a new kind of anger, things could get quite ugly even with her. Though he knew that deep down he wouldn’t hurt her. Though he wouldn’t hold back either.

His sword cleaved into the wooden sword, almost snapping right through it. Almost. He spotted the recruit running away and a wicked grin shortly appeared on his lips. Though the anger in his eyes didn’t dim down, not even by the comment that she made. Something that usually would send him into laughter even just a bit. But as she launched at him, he did the exact same thing. Going straight into offense. Taking a small step to the right before their blades clashed in an almost brutal way. Alec putting all his power into that simple movement. Narrowing his eyes shortly at her before he made a pushing motion with his sword, taking a few steps backwards.

As soon as his sword had cleaved into the wooden sparring sword, Manea had noticed that look on his face. A look that only got enhanced when he caught the recruit running. When she was in battle, she was viciously cruel because it sent her into a state ecstasy but Alec Winchester in this moment, was vicious because he was enraged. Because she pushed him away, there came some distance between them, but no reaction to her words, making her frown as she dropped the wooden sword. As soon as it hit the ground, it halved, and it made Manea grin widely. The commander was all out and Apollo wasn’t there to either stop him or stop her.

She launched again; her sword tilted for offense. They were fighting without shields, which made it even more dangerous for the both of them but neither seemed to care. While moving forward, she caught him stepping to the side and as quickly as she could, she switched hands, catching his move with her blade, using her other hand to keep the weapon steady. Her heels were dug into the ground beneath her as the force of the man, pushed her backwards. She stared him straight in the eye, narrowing them at him before bending down and slipping past his defensive side. She could feel the metal of his blade zing against hers before she dropped hers to pull it away from her. The raven immediately going for his shoulder.

Maybe he shouldn’t be fighting like this. It could cause unnecessary harm for both of them which wasn’t fair at all. Not after all they had endured. But Alec his mind was too far gone to actually think about possible consequences, there was nothing that the man needed more right now than to just fight it out like this. No matter what could happen. Though he did knew that if Manea would actually want to put an end to it she could and she was the only one that could do such a thing apart from her half-brother that was. Not that Apollo would be coming down here today or so he believed.

No shields were used and that was one of the most dangerous things they could do. If anything they were fighting with brute strength and no ways of protecting themselves apart from their swords. Off course she caught his move. Mainly due to the fact that the man wasn’t fighting like he normally would. His swings weren’t as clean as they normally would be, his strength wasn’t balanced out like usual, but with every strike a new explosion of force just erupted. Alec turned his body slightly when she came at him again. Her blade almost striking if he didn’t back off. Yet backing off didn’t mean backing down. Because he came at her again, from another direction, going for her upper leg blade smoothly cleaving to thin air, which she caught. Which made him duck underneath her next attack, blades clashing again making him push harder once more enclosing the distance between them.

There was so much anger in his movement that he had already managed to surprise her twice. Manea preferred fighting with either Apollo or Alec. Both of them were very capable warriors and they had a whole array of fighting styles. Years of practice couldn’t prepare you for a man fighting out of anger, however. Anger made you unpredictable, move unexpectedly and dangerously quick most of the time, however, it also made you fight less precise and less cleanly. It was Manea’s greatest advantage in battle but right in this moment, where she couldn’t call upon her bloodlust and he was relentlessly coming after her, it was her greatest disadvantage.

Her blade went for his shoulder and for a split second she thought she had him, but then he caught up to her movement and he moved out of the way from her strike. However, when his next movement came, it was with new anger, new force and a wicked grin flashed over her face as she caught his strike, protecting her upper leg from being cut straight through. In reaction, she swung with her blade, tilting it for maximum force. He ducked underneath the movement and caught her clade with his. He pushed up with all his force and she pushed back, digging her heels in before turning away and moving behind him, executing a stabbing motion to his liver.

After this whole thing had ended he’d feel for Manea that much was certain. Taking it out on her, it didn’t even feel right. But he needed to get what he was feeling out there and if he didn’t do that to her, he’d take lives. Unnecessary lives. In no way had he planned on fighting her, he had just planned on stating that he’d be leaving for a while. But with the events proceeding before he had seen her. He had become a volatile mixture of rage, hurt and even guilt. Rage having the upper hand for sure, which meant falling into pieces as soon as that had cooled again.

She protected her leg and as that grin flashed over her face he knew that he had here where he wanted here. Maybe not that bloodlust filled spirit he was looking for, but she wouldn’t back down anymore. She pushed back and though she wasn’t bigger than him, there was almost an equal force pushing back. Making him dig his boots in the ground as well. Her slipping behind him made him feel cornered for a quick second, but the man made a kicking motion with his feet, aiming for her shin. Possibly throwing her of her feet, before he jumped away just missing the blade. Moving to the other side of her, blade going for her shoulder this time. Yet with the slightest movement of his wrist he went straight for her side.

There was a certain intensity that came with real battle, it was very different than the focus and calm that often-surrounded sparring. What she and the commander were doing however, was as far from sparring as a sparring session could be. He was angry, enraged, and she, well, Manea never saw a problem with going all out whenever she could. A feral grin had spread over her face and she could feel waves of anger rolling off the man as his sword clashed with hers. The raven soaked it all up and reveled in it, using it to boost her own battle fever. This was her chance at testing just how well her body had recovered from the earlier battle.

Manea was on high alert, watching out for the man’s sudden movement and not letting her defense fall short because nothing made a man more unpredictable than rage. It took effort, but she got the man at a safer distance again, his heels dug into the sand and she almost growled at the man, a feral sound rumbling in her chest. A quick movement gave her the upper hand and the raven stabbed her sword in his direction. He kicked back and because she had to move to the side, she missed his skin by a hair. Just as quick as she had moved out of his way, stood back by her side, his blade aimed at her shoulder, then moving to her side. She pushed her blade under his and pushed it off it’s trajectory, before moving her blade up along his arm towards his torso with great speed, not even slowing down so she wouldn’t wound him.

Going all out. It had been since the battle for the Highlands that he had done that. He usually held back during sparring sessions. But this was not that. This was him who needed to let go off all the built up anger again and there was only one person with who he allowed himself to do that. Mainly because even in this state there was a big shot that Manea could take him down. That was something he needed. Because no, she wouldn’t allow him to hurt her. Ever. But his anger wasn’t residing so easily. He felt the scars on his chest and back pull, but he ignored it. Kept pushing through.

As a growl resounded a wicked grin rolled over his lips. Alec hand enclosing more firmly around the hold of his blade. Eyes piercing in hers. As she stabbed her sword in his direction, which he had anticipated he reacted and soon felt the air her blade was slashing through move over his skin. Any other man would’ve turned away and ran. But this, this was what he needed. The next thing he hadn’t seen coming, with brutal force her blade smashed into his making him miss her by a hair and her miss him by an even thinner hair. Alec swiftly moved around a bit in a turning motion he had landed on an unprotected side, elbowing her right in the side before distancing himself again. His chest was panting, but there was no backing down for the both of them. Not anymore at least. Another attack following soon, this time one with an equal amount of force but she could parry it without a doubt.

Nobody likes sparring with Manea, at least nobody of the troops, nobody of the recruits. She could see it in their eyes. The ones that volunteered always had fear in their eyes, but still felt like they had something to prove, so they challenged her and then they regretted it from the first time she lifted her sword. Then you had the ones that were picked by here, those had even less willpower in their stance, so she easily overpowered them. Those kind of people just weren’t fun, they weren’t. Then you had Alec and Apollo, those at least brought a challenge and then, you had how Alec was this time. As time passed, with every slash of his sword, he got more erratic and she was making sure that she herself wouldn’t lose herself in the fight as well.

His eyes bored into her and she grinned, teeth flashing in a feral grin while her blade stabbed in his direction. Time and time again, they missed each other by a hair, and Alec was getting less and less predictable as anger washed over him. He moved around and elbowed her in her side, making her move back. Black eyes were focused on the way his chest moved while pain travelled through her upper body. He brought another attack towards her and she switched hands, now using her left to help catch the blow by supporting her blade with it. She dug her heels in the sand and pushed him off, immediately going for his upper leg, before turning to his other side, and stabbing towards his ribs. There was no more holding back for her, she only barely managed to keep her head in the game.

There was a thin line between actual sparring and real fighting when it came down to him and Manea, and this had started out as a spar. But the more anger that surged through his body the more that the whole thing was turning into an actual fight which could be potentially life threatening. Which was probably the only reason why the man had taken if this far to elbow her in the side. They weren’t playing for just learning anymore. Or he wasn’t. But he doubted that somewhere along the line she hadn’t shifted into her more normal demeanor already.

That next attack, that switch of hands it was something he could foretell but she only caught the blow, pushing him off which made the man take a few steps back. Defending himself with swinging his blade underneath hers, almost dropping it as a whole due to the amount of force that came down on his sword. Slashing her blade away, and just immediately following by slashing his blade to her side again. Diverting it eventually to her leg, his eyes spitting with fire right now. Anger pulsating from his body. This wasn’t going to end well. Another set of attacks followed, stabbing his blade to stomach now.

For as long as she could, the woman had tried to see this as a spar. Trying to keep her head in the game, trying to play by the rules they always adhered to; going all out but never going for life-threatening injuries. With Alec going all out on her and actually going for her weak spots, something they normally never did, it was harder not to flip that switch and turned her full bloodlust against the man. She switched her hands for extra grip and as his blade smacked into hers, causing a ringing sound, she felt her last willpower slip through her fingers.

He took a few steps back and her eyes flitted between his feet and his blade, no longer going on knowledge but turning to instinct instead. His blade swung underneath hers and she pushed hers down, almost making him drop his. His blade came to her side and she quickly turned out of the way, the blade only missing her leg because she pulled it away. His eyes would’ve terrified many men and women but she wouldn’t be impressed by it and just turned her whole body a quarter while bringing her blade under his and then moving it to his upper leg in a quick stabbing motion.

He saw her turn. He saw her change right in front of him and it made him grin like a madman. She moved out of his way and he felt another surge of anger busting through. Missing her leg by a hair, but as she did strike again he hissed. Just a split second to late, feeling her blade slashing over his upper leg, right above his knee, baring the muscle almost. Which made anger flare even more. This was turning south quite fast. She had drawn blood and hell it would probably hurt, but he wasn’t backing down. Even worse, everything felt heightened even more. Rage surging. Narrowing his eyes at the woman, not even taking the wound into much consideration.

With his good leg the man actually managed to kick her in her stomach. Hoping that she would go down to the ground. Never in his life had she drawn blood from him, apart from the times that he had let her. Those had been minor wounds, this was something else entirely to be fair. But in everything that he was feeling, physical pain caused from that wound wasn’t one of them.

If anything, the warrior had expected her commander to easily pull back from her new attack but instead he hissed and as she looked at his leg, she could see blood see over his knee. She had drawn blood, not just blood, she had wounded the man. Now, she expected him to settle down, for the anger to seep away but it didn’t, instead he just seemed more enraged and the raven felt a massive impact on her stomach, making her stumble back. If this had been a spar, she wouldn’t have gone to extreme measures to stay upright, but the way Alec looked at her told her that if she went down, he would finish this fight.

Never had she wounded the man, partly because she had learned how to control her bursts of anger and bloodlust, and partly because he would end the fight before it went too far. This time however, he was the one who didn’t plan on letting it end so soon, and she was happy to oblige. So, she placed the tip of her blade on the ground for a split second to gain her balance, before immediately charging again, aiming for his side. The raven had a hard time distinguishing this from real battle and her fighting will was quickly overpowering.

It was a moment of miscalculation. Her blade sliding over his leg, opening his leg, baring the muscle. But it didn’t slow him down right away. If anything he grew even angrier. Working it out on Manea by kicking her away. She stumbled, but didn’t fall. Which was for the better. With the way he was feeling it wouldn’t be safe to actually stay down to long or hit the ground to begin with. Because he wasn’t seeing right from wrong anymore. Anger was completely overtaking him and the whole fight wasn’t making it easier on him. It would prove stupid to have even started it on a later moment, but now. Now the man just felt more angry than before.

She came charging and without thinking about it, he turned away from her blade but tried working her to the ground by tackling her, placing his shoulder to whatever he hit first.. Extremely dangerous, because if she managed to place her blade in the wrong way she’d in fact kill him. His leg started bothering him, feeling the blood trickling down on his leg. But the pain was slowly but surely pushing through.

He was getting less and less predictable in his anger and while she had been happy to let him work out his anger by sparring or almost battling against her, now it was getting dangerous. In an instant, he turned away from her blade and instead turned her shoulder towards her. In a quick movement, she managed to divert her blade from hitting him between the ribs and possible puncturing a lung, instead it just cut his flesh. His body smacked against her freshly healed ribs and she yelped, gasping as the two of them went down. Her mind was going in all directions, in the hopes of finding something that would get her out of this incredibly vulnerable position.

As they landed, she fought the urge to tap out as all air disappeared from her lungs. If anything, she doubted that the man would let her tap out to begin with. But then she saw an opening. With her leg still caught underneath the man, she placed her blade down and wrapped her arms around his neck. Tilting his chin and wrapping her muscled forearm tightly before she squeezed while lying behind him. ”Commander, you need to stop, you’re hurt,” she hissed, hating herself for not just finishing this fight and ending the man. Commander would be a nice position to have herself. But the man was important to Apollo and he would never forgive her if she sliced his throat here. ”Your anger is fading reality, calm down,” she spoke again in her same monotone voice. He was heavier than her, but she just hoped that this would make enough of a dent in his conscious to make him reconsider his actions. After all, being depraved of air was unpleasant, as she knew all too well.

Her blade slashed against his chest, yet nothing to deep. Though it stung like hell but the man was dragged to deep in his anger and pain to actually take note of that. Smacking her against the ground and making Manea actually yelp. Which wasn’t something that had ever happened before as far as he could tell. In normal situations that would’ve been the thing that would’ve drawn him back for sure. But right now, as they were in fact rolling over the ground Alec holding his grip on her so she couldn’t make a possible come back with her blade because that would in fact mean his end.

But before he actually knew it Manea had wrapped her arms around his neck making him his. She squeezed his airways right shut and it made him tense up. His whole body was tensing up right away and he was shifting his shoulders trying to get loose. Her words barely reaching him. Still struggling to get out of her grip as she was squeezing all of the air right out of him making him eventually see clear again. Or well as far as one could see clear with all air almost deprived. ’Let me go.’ He barely managed to get out, feeling the anger in his body reside for now. Slumping even. Not fighting back anymore. Right now, barely even caring if she would end him or not. Because yes he was hurt, but he was hurt almost beyond repair.
