The human body is built to expel all that could be toxic, designed to prevent anything from poisoning it from within by wiping its insides clean when it feels an infection brewing somewhere. A fever will try to boil the blood until the germs are dead and a wound will fester to push out the splinter. That was exactly what Willa's body had started doing last night. She had managed to keep the fever at bay and had kissed Alec goodbye as he went off to the barracks that next morning. The pain had barely waned since she had told him, and she had probably woken him more often with her crying than she was willing to admit. His pain had not gone without notice, she had seen him try to put on a strong face, but she knew he was suffering as much as she had.

Being smart and listening to the advice Vesper had given her, Willa had stayed in bed, resting up. But the fever had gotten worse and the brewing infection had started causing painful convulsions from her abdomen, it woke her up, gasping for air. As the blonde had felt the sheets near her, it had dawned on her that Alec had left for the barracks only a couple of hours earlier. She let out a scream that made her throat ache without knowing if it was caused by the pain or the realization of what was happening. It didn't take long for the door to be pushed open, Camilla staring at her with wide eyes, alerted by the force behind her voice. Soothing words were spoken by Camilla who had run in as she saw thee distress on Willa’s face, trying to calm the trashing woman down. This had been planned without telling Alec, she didn't want him suffering even more than he already was. She only wanted Camilla there as she was a midwife which should be enough to bring a not full-grown child into the world. The child would be transferred to Vesper so she could find out which was the cause of all this misery.

Soon - earlier than anyone could’ve suspected, the blonde simply accepted her faith. The sound of the door pulled her attention for a second and she knew someone had left to go fetch Alec. Her hand slid over her round belly with a warm smile as she realized that this would be the last time she could talk to her child. That same familiar tune everyone had gotten used to these past months floated through the room. The pains of childbirth wrecked through her body, her mind and her soul as she knew that she's never hear her child cry out for her, never hear them talk smack about how far they could throw a rock, never see them balance on their chubby feet trying to take their first steps, never smile at them as their dad threw them in the air just to catch them split seconds later. She would never see them engage in mock swordfight with Alec nor would she teach them to shoot at targets. It broke her heart in ways unimaginable up until this day and the pain seemed to be immeasurable.

It hadn't taken the commander long to get back after they had left to fetch him. He had made more noise than she had ever heard, or maybe it all just sounded louder because she just focused on him more now than ever. The blonde had broken away from her pain to smile at the lie she told herself. The lie that he came to meet his firstborn child, his living firstborn child. The truth was a hundred times more painful and it carried her words, words which sounded painfully characteristic even in this dire situation. "Don't come in Lex, I look terrible" she yelled, the joking undertone she had tried to grasp drowned in the tears that were welling up. The salty liquid started streaming down her face as her voice cracked, "I don't want you here. Please stay outside." Even though every nerve in her body begged her to use the strong man as an anchor, she just repeated "I really don't want you even close, please." She wanted to be alone, even Camilla was one too many, but she knew the man would throw a terrible fit if she threw her out too. This was it, definite goodbye and the young blonde was preparing her mind, her heart for the loss it hadn’t yet accepted fully.

The loss is immeasurable,
but so is the love left behind.

Lost. Utterly lost. That was how the man had felt, it didn’t seem to get better. Would it ever? The man had stayed in after that first night, couldn’t think of himself going to the barracks and bark orders all day. No, he had stayed in bed with her, holding her softly, doing everything he could actually do for her. Anything that made their pain lesser. But it hadn’t been working, not for him and neither for her. So the second day he had just gone to work, not that there was much that he could do. His mind wasn’t focusing on the task at hand and he had just been cooped up in his office, staring into the fire that was roaring. Keeping the room warm. Feeling anger settle in his chest. Alec tried, he tried to be brave, to keep his emotions at bay. But when he was alone, when he was alone in his office.. No. Anger and pain got the better of him, having him tossed over his office in more ways than he could count.

Today had just been like that. With a dreaded feeling in the pit of his stomach he had walked out of his house and gone to the barracks, looking more grim each day. Recruits stayed out of his way, the only people that actually dared to speak were the higher ranked officers but even to them he didn’t pay much attention. Working through the papers that had been stacking up, he felt an incredibly big wave of sadness hit him straight in the gut yet again. Alec was growing tired of it, growing tired of the pain that he was feeling every day in and out. It was making him go crazy in more ways than he could imagined. Where he had expected his emotions to flatten out after a while, they just kept rising. Driving him over the edge time and time again. Though only when he was alone. He tried to keep on a brave face whenever he was home, only letting the sadness out. But the anger he kept locked up. A knock on his door had sounded and he got up from his seat, staring at the little piece of timber that had broken while he was signing off on stuff. Opening the door. ’Your wife…’

Two simple words, they were more than enough to just send him running through the house. Not even listening to whatever else he had to say. His heart was aching, hell every part of him was aching and he just hoped that he wasn’t too late. That he would be in time to actually say goodbye. A goodbye that no one ever should say. Tears stood in his eyes but he was to stubborn to let them show. While pushing people aside so he could pass he could feel just everything fall away under him for a moment. But he couldn’t stop to take a second. Not now. Though before he knew it, a little boy stood in his path. Just looking up with big blue eyes and he stood still for a second. Just staring at the little kid, his lip trembling. Until his mother pulled him aside making room for him to get on. His mind was filling up with all those things that could’ve been. The little one, playing around with Thor and Odin, crawling on top of them and probably falling asleep on them. Him and Willa, holding the child. Teaching it all those things that it needed to know. His hand pushed open the heavy wooden door, stumbling over Thor who greeted him making him hiss shortly.

Though when he was at the top of the stairs and he heard her words he frowned. Not understanding, tears pouring yet again as his hand grasped the wooden stair rest, putting such an amount of force on it for a moment. ’Please let me in Willa.’ He spoke loud enough, despair seeping through his voice as he just sat down next to his door, resting his head against the wall. That need to be with her, it was pulling at him. It was pulling at him with such an excessive amount of force. Pulling up one leg as he stared out in front of him, soon to be joined by both of his dogs each on either side of his body. Comforting him. But it wasn’t enough, he needed to be in there with her. Needed to hold her. Needed to be able to say goodbye.

The woman laid their panting while childbirth was sending shockwaves of pain through her whole body. All she wanted was to be alone and get the chance to get through this horrible experience. Camilla was still silently ushering her to keep going, to just suffer through this a little longer and then it would be over, but would it ever be over? This pain? Would it ever get to the point that it was bearable, to the point that she could go on with life and not feel like her whole heart had been ripped apart? Every wave of pain was accompanied by a vision. The child running through the street of Caer Scion with Alec chasing him before he actually ran into a cart. Willa taking the child to Kraken’s Lair to meet Asher or Alec taking him to the castle to meet Apollo.

The heavy footsteps on the stairs were enough to sent her into a feeling of despair. She was ruining this. She had ruined their relationship by losing their child. If she invited him in, he’d just hurt more. As soon as he asked her, she shook her head. ”No, please don’t Alec. I don’t want you here,” she gasped through another shockwave. She didn’t want him hurting as much as she was and yet her mind was screaming for him, begging to have him close. If she hadn’t come look for him, he wouldn’t be going through this, if she hadn’t been here, he wouldn’t be hurting. She had very quickly ruined Alec’s life and guilt was wrapping around her lungs.

Camilla sighed as another shockwave passed and Willa bit her lip so harshly that she could taste blood. The midwife turned away, cradling the little lifeless child Willa had put on this earth and wrapping it into a little blanket. There was no crying, there was no joy, there was the trashing little arms and legs or counting of toes and fingers. There was just utter and sheer sadness. ’It…’ Camilla started but Willa yelled: ”No! I don’t want to know. I’ve… I’ve said my goodbyes.” The blonde spoke through soft sobs. ”Take it to Alec, let him take his time to say goodbye as well,” she continued as she slowly tried to sit up in the bed.

The fact that she didn’t want him in there hurt him more than anything else. He needed to be next to her, to hold her hand. To experience this with her even if it ended up like this. Alec clenched his jaw, taking a deep breath wanting to just go in. In the end he could. But when she stated again that she didn’t want him there he just sat down, he sat down and just listened staring out in front of him. With every sound he could pick up on his heart squeezed together more and more, whatever fraction of his heart that was still left it would dissolve today. It would, from the moment he said goodbye. His hand brushed through the fur of one of the dogs who laid curled up against him. But that wasn’t what he wanted. Anger was bubbling underneath everything he did now a days, but right now. It wasn’t anger that was overwhelming him. It was pain, pain and heartache.

A yell resounded and he jumped up. Wanting to burst in, but instead Camilla came out holding the lifeless baby in her arms, handing it to Alec and the man just stared down at the little child in his arm. Looking up at the woman, who mentioned it being a girl which made his heart ache even more. He held her close, closer than ever. Caressing her little bag, just hoping that it would cry out, that it would wiggle in his arms but nothing came and it was wrecking him up completely. ’Daddy will miss you little one, I’m so sorry.’ A soft sob resounded as he bit his lip softly. Unsure what to do next. The baby would go to Vesper and she would find out what happened. But here he was, holding his first child. A moment that he had expected to be more blissful, filled with happiness and little cries. But there was nothing but silence and it was weighing him down more. He wanted to go to Willa, but Cammi shook her head, making it so that she was actually standing in the way. That neither of them could see each other even if they tried. ’We love you. Will always love you.’ Another silent whisper against the little kid, softly kissing it’s little head. Tears rolling down his cheeks.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want Alec close, because she wished he could be close, could be holding her. She wished that she could be relying on him but her self-hate for hurting him and her fear of hurting him even more were a million times bigger. So, she hadn’t allowed him in while she was writhing in their bed in pain, while she was saying her goodbyes to the child they wanted to welcome in this world. Worse even, she had screamed at him to not come in, to stay outside.

Maybe a part of her had wished that the pain would stop now she and her baby were separated, but instead it only seemed to worsen as Camilla walked out with their child. Her insides seemed to be crunched up like a leaf in Autumn and she gasped for air while her lungs seemed to be shriveling up in her chest. Her hand looked for support on the heavy wooden furniture and with trembling legs she pushed herself up, stumbling into the adjunct room where a hot bath was waiting. Slowly she lowered herself in the water, new tears streaming down her cheeks while she was desperately trying to get any form of oxygen in her lungs. Oh, how she wished that her baby would’ve miraculously done the same thing, that he or she had started screaming while taking in gulps of air, but they hadn’t. Nails dragged over her chest, in an attempt to overpower the pain she felt on the inside. Gasps sucked in the hot vapor coming off the water into her lungs and she clasped her two hands in front of her mouth in hopes of calming the rapid breathing rushing through her.

It took her a while to calm but once she managed that, she made sure to clean up. Her blonde hair was cleaned of all the sweat that clung to it and her skin was rinsed of all the blood and sweat sticking to it. A long while later, she stepped out as she noticed that the water surrounding her had cooled down completely. The strength in her legs had returned but her whole body was still aching while she was putting on clothes. Steeling herself for what was to come, she glanced outside at the sun. ’As if she’s laughing with my misery,’ she thought angrily before stepping out into the bedroom, expecting to find Alec there.

The man did his best to keep his sobs under control, to keep his emotions as steady as he could but he was failing tremendously with the little girl in his arms. All he wanted to do was just curl up and never open his eyes again. Making this pain stop forever. But there was no use in thinking like that, it wouldn’t happen and the only thing he could do was stare at the still face of his daughter. Which eventually smacked all the air out of his lungs again as he just broke down for the umpteenth time. Looking up at Camilla, who looked rather heartbroken herself. Very softly he leaned in to her just a little bit, wanting to step into the room wanting to be with Willa if anything. A name, the baby needed a name. She couldn’t go on without one and they hadn’t talked about it, that was the only thing they hadn’t talked about and it pained him even more. But he couldn’t be bursting in. After what seemed like an eternity, Cammi picked up the little girl from his arms again, softly kissing his cheek. Finally stepping away from her place. Nodding. ’The bedroom, no further Alec.’ She warned him, before she walked down the stairs taking away his baby from him.

He had walked in, wanting to go into the other room but he took Cammi’s warning for real. Walking over to the window and staring out in front of it. Watching how life outside was just going on. While his own life seemed to have stopped, their life. Pulling a hand through his hair and letting out a deep sigh, shaking his head shortly. Still not being able to believe to what had actually happened. There was indeed nothing left of what his heart was. Just a big empty hole in the middle of his chest. Alec spotted Cammi walking out the door followed by Thor and his lip trembled again. Shortly placing his hand to the glass. ’Goodbye little one.’ A soft whisper.

When he heard something behind him he slowly turned around. Wanting to walk up to her, wrap his arms around her and tell her that everything would be fine. Which was exactly what he did, though he halted right in front of her. Carefully reaching for her. Something felt off about her. About the whole situation. On the other hand how could a situation like this ever feel right? ’Camilla is taking the baby to Vesper.’

The bath had been warm at first and she had taken the time calming down from the panic attack to get all her ducks in her row. She needed to get away from Alec, she needed to protect the love of her life from herself. If she stayed, she would break him, she just knew it. Her mind was going circles around and around what had happened these past weeks. Her roots were in Ruby Bay, and she knew she could always return there, she knew that. It would be far enough from Caer Scion to relief Alec from the curse that seemed to rest upon her.

While glancing outside, she caught Thor following Camilla and the blonde choked up, placing her hand against the window as she caught the tiny bundle the older woman was cradling against her chest. ”I love you, always have, always will” she whispered to her child, ”goodbye” she then said before gathering the last of her nerves and walking out into the bedroom. Her eyes fell onto the broad back of the man also looking outside and tears burned her throat, but she refused to let even the slightest of emotion appear on her face. He seemed broken, she had broken the most proud and strong man she had ever met.

He reached for her and she softly placed her hand in his, nodding at his words. ”I saw her walk out with Thor.” That was all she could give as an answer before betraying her true feelings. ”Alec… I can’t do this…” she spoke as her blue eyes looked at him, still keeping any emotion off her face. ”I can’t.” There wasn’t any clarity in her words and she knew it but it was all she could put in between them before falling down into the mess she was behind those heavy walls she had set up.

To be fair, he felt sick. Not in the nauseating way, he just felt sick and he couldn’t even put into words to where he was feeling sick. Was his body catching up with his mind, had the antagonizing pain finally spread far enough for him to feel physically incapable of doing anything else? Questions were rushing through his head, but the moment he laid eyes on her again, a part of him felt better. How weird that may sound, but her presence had some calming effect on him that he couldn’t explain. It had been there from the very start. That calming effect, no matter how much she had annoyed him back then she always managed to calm him down in a split second again. But this. This felt off. In more ways than he could say.

As she placed her hand in his, he softly squeezed it. ’They are taking her to Vesper.’ He whispered softly. But when she spoke again, he frowned. Panic rushing through his eyes as he softly shook his head. No. Whatever she was referring to, they could do this. Together. ’Please don’t say that.’ He stepped closer to her, putting an arm around her as he still held her hand, just pulling her closer. A desperate attempt to keep her here with him. ’I can’t do this without you..’ His voice cracked again and he hated himself for it. But he didn’t want to loser her in anyway. If he lost her, he’d lose everything.

Her legs were still slightly trembling underneath the weight of her body and pain was radiating through her body but because of sheer will, she was standing up and looking down. Even though the sight of their child was almost enough to make her crumple to the ground, like an animal that had just been shot in the heart. Maybe that was exactly what she was? Someone being shot in the heart by life. It took her a little while longer to gather herself again before she could face the music and walk out into the bedroom. Alec. Just having him closer, having him hold her hand was enough to make her feel like if they waited long enough, it would all be okay.

Support, that was what she needed from Alec, but she herself was refusing it. The way he squeezed her hand almost rammed straight through her walls with the help of his words. ’Her,’ was what he had said. Their child had been a baby girl, a little female mix of the two of them. She had half a mind to claw at her own chest again, but there were already places where she had broken the skin and she shouldn’t damage herself further. ”A daughter,” she muttered, glancing at Alec’s chest for a little while.

Even with how much he meant for her, she couldn’t do this, she couldn’t make him suffer by staying so close, by sharing however cursed her life seemed to be. He shook his head, but she stood her ground, ”But I am, I can’t do this, I don’t want to,” she repeated herself, steeling herself more for what was to come. The way his arm wrapped around her and he tried to hold her closer made desperate to melt into him and just forget about it all, but instead she used her free hand to push his chest away. ”You’ll have to. I can’t stay here, I don’t want to, this isn’t worth it, any of it,” she glanced up. He wouldn’t let her go, if she just kept repeating the same words, her wouldn’t and she knew it. Willa was wrecking her brain for something to say so he’d just let her take off, still saddened, still broken, still hurt.

Willa had muttered something in his chest and he softly hummed, placing his head against hers and just holding her. Supporting her. She shouldn’t be up. She should be resting. Preferably with their little girl on her chest, in a world that was right, it would’ve happened. They would’ve had that happily ever after. But nothing in this world felt right anymore and that was them included. Something vital had been taken away and it was effecting them more and more. While Alec wanted to do nothing more than just hold her, there was something entirely different going on with her and he couldn’t just pinpoint it.

As she pushed him away he felt himself crumble more. Blue eyes looking up, lost and confused. Like when he had been a little boy when his parents hadn’t returned, when he was left alone. Though this hurt even more. This was Willa. Willa smacking the living hell out of him with what she was doing. ’What about together?’ The frailty of his voice was carrying it just far enough, tightening his grip around her. It was over. Whatever love she had held for him was gone, it had disappeared just like their little girl had done and it was completely turning him to a big puddle. ’I love you Willa. More than anything.’ But it was clear that she didn’t love him the same way. So that’s how it would end? Alec loosened his grip again, a stray tear rolling over his cheek. ’So this is it? One awful, ground shattering thing happening and you’re leaving me?’ A certain coldness had wrapped around his voice, but the sobs wrecking through his voice told more than enough. He wasn’t going to say this kind of stuff. He couldn’t. Not to her. Alec didn’t want to break her more.

The way he held her, he knew in how much pain she was, not just physical but mentally as well. For a second there, he was all that was holding him up and she could feel her legs tremble beneath her but was too stubborn to let it show. She sighed, keeping her gaze focused on his chest. ”She needs a name,” she spoke finally, still looking down, ”I don’t, she has to have a name, right?” Willa asked, keeping her voice as steady as her vocal cords would allow her to. He was holding her, and for now she let him, wanting to melt into the man. Wanting to press herself against him and disappear from the world. Preferably forever now those cursed Gods had taken away her happy ending, her happiness, her child, her daughter.

With a deep breath, she had pushed him away and the look he gave her as he looked up, almost made her topple over and cry her eyes out. But, she didn’t, she straightened her back some more, ignoring the immense pains rushing through her body. ”Together was an illusion Alec, I don’t want together,” she coldly spoke. And what a lie it was, the blonde desperately wanted together, she wanted him by her side ever second of what remained of her miserable life, but she couldn’t ask someone like Alec to suffer from just how miserable she was. Their girl had been taken away, and despite her loved for him and his love for her, she needed to convince Alec to let her go.

He loved her. Yes, she knew that and hell, she had never loved anyone or anything as much as Alec Winchester, and that said a lot knowing just how greedy she was. This was the end of them, the end of what had truly been the best period of her life, the end of whatever future they had left and Willa was shredding, not only his heart but her own heart while at it. With her heart free falling to the ground, she smiled up, her hand reaching for his cheek. ”This was more than just one earthshattering thing happening Alec,” she whispered while she let her thumb skim over the slight stubble on his cheek. ”This was me realizing that however much I thought I loved you, it was an illusion.” Lies, lies, liar, that was what she was. A liar, nothing else. Slowly, she reached up, gently kissing his lips, ”I’m sorry Alec,” she said, forcing down the tears that were rushing into her eyes. Her hand fell from his cheek and she pulled away from him, severing the last connection they had.

Willa’s voice resounded against his chest making him frown. A name. It was such a simple ask but his mind was drawing a blank as he envisioned the little girl he had been holding moments ago. A soft sob slipping from over his lips as he slowly nodded. His heart felt heavy, more than heavy even. But their daughter needed a name. Something beautiful, something special just like she was. He took a deep breath, to calm himself down to not start crying out again. ’She looked like a special little lady. If she had the chance, she’d become just as strong as her mother..’ He softly whispered, looking up at her but there was no one staring back and it pained him. ’Maybe Lenox? It sounds strong, and it’s special?’

Her pushing him away. She could’ve just as easily ripped his heart out. Confusion and pain clearly visible in his eyes mixed with desperation actually. Her words being the suffering blow that almost smacked the life out of him. ’Please don’t. Willa, please don’t. I need you.’ He softly shook his head, biting his lip. No, she couldn’t be leaving. He wouldn’t survive that. He’d survive anything with her next to him, but with her leaving. He was just no one. He couldn’t turn into that. ’I can’t go on, not without you.’ Not after this, not after losing their little girl. And now he was losing her as well? What kind of forces were at play here? Why was she throwing this away? Why on earth? He wanted to hold her closer, he wanted that so desperately because he’d crumble down the moment she’d be gone that was one thing that he knew for sure. ’It wasn’t an illusion..’ This was more real than anything in his life had ever been and the fact that she just wanted to let that go, it was something he didn’t understand. Something that his scrambled brain right now couldn’t understand.

The moment she reached for his cheek was the moment he wanted to step away, the moment he wanted to push her away. But he couldn’t. The man couldn’t bring himself up to do anything like that. Slightly leaning into her finger brushing his skin. ’Don’t do this to me. Don’t destroy this, me…’ But the moment she did want to kiss him he couldn’t, he couldn’t put himself through this. Turning his face, making her lips brush alongside his cheek. Fuck. A heavy sob wrecking through his body. ’Just leave. Let me bury our girl alone then, if that’s what you want. If I'm worth so less to you, then just go. But Willa, for fuck sake I love you okay.’

She could hear the man sobbing, she could see his chest and shoulders move in that ever so recognizable motion of sadness. The woman bit her lip shortly while listening to Alec. He had held their daughter, he had said goodbye on his own time, while carrying her in his arms. A special little lady, a smile broke through on her face. Yes, that did sound like the perfect description for a child coming from the two of them. She would’ve had those beautiful dark brown hairs of her dad and his eyes, but her facial structure. Her lip trembled as she tried to envision how their child would’ve grown up. He suggested a name and she glanced at her hands, taking another deep breath and looking up at the man. ”Lenox,” she tried it out, letting it slowly roll off her tongue. ”Yes, I do like that, Lenox Winchester, it sounds strong,” she agreed with the man.

They could agree all they wanted; her idea hadn’t changed. The blonde had to get away from this. Not for herself, definitely not, no, but for him. Willa couldn’t make him happy, that she knew, she couldn’t make the man happy and he deserved all the happiness in the world. ”You don’t Alec, you don’t need me,” she said, trying to keep her voice level and distant. He looked like she had just punched him in the gut and left nothing for him to live for. ”You can and you will go on, because you’re amazing and you’re strong,” she whispered with a nod. So strong, so amazing, too amazing for her, she didn’t deserve him but it hurt her that she had to leave him while he was so clearly hurting. It was tearing her apart to have to break the man more, just so he would leave her be, let her go, save himself from the terror she had rained down on his life. The blonde nodded. It had been. Those couple of weeks of happiness had been an illusion, she could never make him feel that way, she wasn’t made for that, she would only hurt him.

What was she doing? Why did she feel the need to reach for him as if she was trying to comfort him from the pain she was causing him. He leaned into her soft touch and she caressed his cheek once more. Destroy… was that what she was doing? Destroying him? Who he was, what he stood for? It wasn’t her intention, she just wanted to save him, save him from terrible things that were to come if she stayed with him. Willa didn’t answer him, not seeing a point since he seemed to know that she would do it anyway. He turned away from her, and he had every right to. She was disgusting, a terrible human being for doing this, for making him suffer, but it was all to save him from further pain. Burying their girl was something she’d entrust him with, something she wished she had the strength to do, but she didn’t. ”Don’t…” she angrily hissed, ”You’re not worthless, you’re perfect. I’m just… I’m just not what you need,” she softly continued, realizing how snappy she had gotten.

’Just like you.’ The man softly hummed, squeezing her hand. Because yes, even with all this pain he still believed her to be the strongest woman in the world and that little girl would’ve followed into her footsteps. Break every man’s heart even before her father could’ve broken their face. That idea alone hurt hem even more than he could imagine. Things they wouldn’t ever do. Because Lenox didn’t know the joy that was life. She’d never run around in this very house, terrorizing the dogs. No . It wasn’t fair. But at least their little girl now had a name. Which was in fact something she deserved. His lips started trembling again. ’Lenox Winchester.’

Breaking his heart. Breaking his whole entire being. That was what she was doing here. She stated that he didn’t need her. But she couldn’t be more wrong. Why on earth was she stating those facts? She knew. Willa knew how much she meant to him, how much this all meant to him. They were supposed to be each other’s second chance at life. But now, now she was taking that away from him, from herself and for what exact reason? ’I won’t.’ He shook his head. Never again. Sure, his life would continue but would he truly ever feel alive again without her next to him? He wouldn’t. Not ever. How fast she had become his world, the faster she even seemed to second guess what they had. Was this fear? Was she scared that he would actually let her go? Find someone else? The man didn’t know and honestly, Alec wasn’t going to think much longer about it. It hurt too much. Illusions. She had kept stating that this all was an illusion. But it was nothing more than real. It couldn’t get any more real than this.

An angry hiss made him frown. Oh, she was angry now? For what? For leaving him? For making him go through the burying of their daughter on his own? ’You are. You’re everything I need. But I guess I’m just not enough.’ He lowered his head, tears crashing down on the ground. ’I don’t know what happened. But if you want to leave. You know the way. I want to fight for you Willa, always. But you’re not giving me a chance here.’ He shook his head, trying to keep his voice steady but he was failing again. Wanting to bring his hand up to her cheek, doing so even looking at her again. ’I’ll always love you.’

Just like her. Oh, how she wished it was exactly that. That she had been strong enough to carry their little girl to term, that she had been able to carry her child so her child could grow into a beautiful strong woman herself. That was all she had been wishing for the longest time, ever since she had realized that she was pregnant, she wanted to give that little child the best life it could have, but it wouldn’t happen. ”Yes,” she whispered. Lenox Winchester, their beloved daughter.

If anything, she wanted to be able to say that she didn’t know what she was doing, but she did, she knew perfectly well that she could be breaking the man standing in front of her, that it was very possible that she was ruining any chance he had at a happy life. ”You will,” she muttered, feeling like it would become a yes-no-game if she didn’t stop this now. The man was the center of her universe, the one her whole life seemed to be rotating around and she could and would not have that. She’d ruin him id she kept this close to him, so she had made the decision that it would be better if she just went away. Would that be best? If she removed herself from his life? Removed the rusted nail from the festering wound?

He pulled himself down again, and she shook her head, desperately trying to convey that that wasn’t what she wanted him to think, that wasn’t what she tried to convey. ”Stop. You are too good, too much for me, that’s what’s wrong,” she spoke. Now, this was wrong, she didn’t belong by his side, she’d only hurt him. He was too good for her, and they both knew it, he was just too stubborn to admit it. ”I do… I do want to leave,” she said, seeing his hand move and every nerve-ending yelled at her to lean into him, but instead, she pulled away. Her legs moved because she was forcing them to, not because they wanted to. They felt heavy, and she felt like toppling over, but she kept upright brushing past him. ”I love you too,” she whispered while walking to the door. ”I’m sorry Alec,” she said after she stopped in the doorframe and before walking down the stairs.

Never had something felt so wrong. He wanted her to stay. To be with him for the rest of his life. But it was clear enough that she didn’t want that anymore. For whatever reason that might be. Maybe it had something to do with this, with the loss of their daughter. But the man couldn’t bring it up in his head to believe that. He was taking this personally. She didn’t want to be with him anymore. Chances were he’d never find out why that was. This whole thing was hurting him so much more. Making his heart wrench. That sick feeling of before was returning back to his stomach and honestly he did feel like throwing up, but he doubted that he would. He hadn’t eaten anything the entire day. Sadness was overwhelming him in such higher levels than before. Shaking his head again at her words but not replying anymore. Trying to steel himself for the goodbye that was coming up, but it wasn’t working out. His whole world would be walking out of that door downstairs to never look back again. To go live her life in the Lair.. Maybe that was it. Maybe the differences were to big after all. But that had been his fault after all then. If he had tried harder than just maybe this wouldn’t be happening to them?

So she had wanted him to turn out like a true northerner then, like a brute? Or maybe she was just looking for something more like her? Not a word she spoke was believable anymore. A sigh slipped over his lips as he shook his head again. When she did state that she want to leave, a whine escaped him and he could really about smack himself in the head for it. But it was her literally denying him that final goodbye that broke him entirely. That whisper. What was that? Just to taunt him? Another apology and honestly he was about to start wailing like a fucking little kid. But he couldn’t not just yet. Rushing down the stairs and grabbing a cloak, handing it over to her as he stood by the door. ’Just please take this. I had it made for you.. You can do whatever you want with it, but it can be pretty cold still.’

If the getting pregnant hadn’t done it, if getting married hadn’t done it, if losing their child hadn’t done it, this would definitely break her and change her forever. Her mind was closing because of what had happened, but the love she felt for the man standing before her refused to be chained down and went through her head like a tornado. The blonde had years of practice in keeping her emotions locked between a stone-cold mask, but she doubted that she was succeeding completely right now. Alec, however, was showing her every bruise, every crack, every open wound she was causing with her words and actions. Her body screamed to feel his warmth and as she reached for her, she was desperate to feel those warm calloused hand on her cheek, but she was afraid of it breaking her resolve, so she pulled away from him instead. She would go back to the place she knew, to the cities she loved, the job that made her feel whole, or at least that was what she hoped. After all, nothing could make her feel whole like Alec had done these past weeks.

That whine sliced right through her like a meat cleaver, making her legs tremble again before she walked off. Tears had sprung in her eyes as soon as she had put her foot on the first step. She forced her feet to keep moving, step by step until she stood at the front door. The blonde had barely brought any clothes here, so she wasn’t trying to gather them. He came thundering down the stairs as she opened the door and she bit her lip, quickly blinking to fight off the tears that had appeared on the stairs. He handed her a cloak and she let her fingers dance over the beautiful dark green fabric. It felt like her expensive cloak, and the color was magnificent with golden detailing. She nodded. ”Thank you,” she muttered, ”I…” love you, was what she had wanted to say, but she had stopped herself. In a twirling motion, she swung the cloak around her shoulders, closing the golden glasp, and pulling the hood over her head so it would cover her face as tears finally started streaming down her cheeks. ”Goodbye,” she spoke in her trembly voice, opening the door and walking out.

but so is the love left behind.

The moment she pulled away was the moment his heart just stopped beating. or that was how he felt in that very moment. It wasn't fair. But he knew deep down that there was no stopping her. For who knows what reason she had made her decision. The decision to leave him and to go back to the Lair most likely. Where she had been the one that had wanted to claw her heart out from the moment she found out that they had lost Lenox. Now it was his time. His hand had gone to his own chest after she had declined his touch. And he understood. Right there, he understood the temptation of getting rid of a heart. With losing something that you considered as your universe, nothing just made sense anymore. A sickening feeling got a hold of him. The kind of that only hurt every part of your being. Heartbreak in it's purest form.

Willa left him in their room. But he couldn't just watch her leave like this. It was still a tad cold up here. She'd get sick. If anything she shouldn't even walk around at all. With big steps he had sprinted down. Followed by Odin. Tears were welling up yet again. But as her fingers danced over the cloak, he knew that she would at least accept that. She accepted a cloak yet denied his love. When she wanted to speak he simply nodded. Knowing what she wanted to say. While she put on the cloak he hummed. Camilla had done a magnificent job. It was almost as beautiful as the girl that was putting it one. She muttered a farewell and started walking away. Which felt wrong to him. So incredibly wrong. 'I love you.' Odin shot out after her. Softly licking her hand. But when he didn't get the right reaction the dog just stood still and Alec. The man couldn't possibly stand up straight anymore. The sadness and pain it just got the better of him. Making him slide down against the wall. Only to be found a while later by Cammi staring out into the empty house.

Never before in her life had she felt this thorn about something, not a single time had she felt like her mind, her heart and her body were each pulling in another direction. As if they were pulling her apart at the seams. This was almost as bad if not worse than the pain she felt when she realized that she was losing her child. The blonde had hoped that he would just stay in their room, but within seconds he was down where she was, pushing that beautiful cloak in her hands. An ever so soft sob slipped over her lips as her fingers brushed the fabric. The grey hairs of Odin’s nose softly brushed against her skin while he sniffled the cloak and she bit her lip before putting it on.

The man nodded while words got lodged in her throat, as if he knew what she was going to say, but did he? Did he really understand what she wanted to tell him? Why she was doing this? The muscles in her whole body protested as she walked out the door, but she couldn’t show that so in a steady pace, she walked off, catching those three little words. They caused a sob, a soft sound slipping through her lip as she walked on. Odin came and bumped her hand, causing tears to slip down her cheek. ”I love you too,” she whispered before noticing that the dog had already stopped walking with. This was it, this was how she ended it, and she wasn’t sure. Was it like a coward running away from her problems, or rather like a protector trying to keep the only man she loved safe from herself?

The loss is immeasurable,
but so is the love left behind.
