The Iron Ridge, a place people often avoid for their stories and dark shadows. A certain gateway up north to the place the undead and dragons laid asleep. Maybe that was why everybody would take the route around instead from straight through, nobody wanted to see the monsters from up close. And on beautiful days like this these kinds of creatures needed to hide somewhere. It was an intriguing thing, to be honest, to be the kind of thing that could never fully feel again. To be so close to death and yet at the same time so far away. It was the kind of thing that got Cosimo got compelled. The reason why he decided to cross the road here and not through the Crownlands.

It took him less time, time in which he was whistling as he led the horse and that simple carriage over the roads of Silvershire, to a castle that was partly ruled by one of them, a Cascioferro. After the death of his mother, this always had been his safe haven, the one place he would come if the demons of his magic would hunt him at night. And since he got frustrated by the troubles he had he only found it fit to be here. As he arrived at the castle there was a rather dark atmosphere around the people, like somebody just … died. His brain would take the usual - death magic- tour by fantasying what he could do with a dead body. But for now, his only concern was his aunt and cousin as he roped the reins around a pole and walked into the castle. ‘Where are they?’ He asked as soon as he crossed the first best guard in the hallway. ‘Lady Isabelle doesn’t wish,’ He paused, connecting one darker-toned Cascioferro to another. ‘She is in her private chambers.’ He followed. Cosimo made a praying gesture with his hand as a token of thanks before he took the stairs up to her room. A servant came out of the room as he appeared in the doorway, taking the descent to knock. At least she wasn’t the one dead … he wouldn’t be able to handle that.

Three days.

Bella had been there when her husband had passed. It hadn’t been peaceful nor quiet, the way you told your children when they first learnt about death. He hadn’t drifted off to sleep, only to not wake up anymore. He had gone violently in the night, screaming and heaving and grasping at his chest. At that point, Delvin had been deteriorating rapidly. Sometimes he was found wandering about the streets of Silvershire, not knowing where he was. On other occasions he’d been talking to himself, pacing the hallways at night. In some ways, his passing had been an end to his pain. Bella couldn’t help but hope that he was suffering in the afterlife still.

She was seated at the vanity in her chambers, her privat chambers now. She eyed herself in the mirror as she gently put in the crystal earrings. They added a little more class to the black dress she was wearing. It had always been her favorite color with regards to clothing, but Cascioferro tradition prescribed that she wear it to mourn the death of her husband. She couldn’t say she was particularly sad about his passing, but at least the world believed she was. “Anything else, milady?” the young servant added. “No, thank you, dear. That’ll be all,” Bella excused her, after which the girl left. Bella put in her other earring and looked over her shoulder at the sound of a knock. “Come in?” she said, although in a questioning tone. She had no idea who it could be. Federico was still asleep and Vallea wasn’t around. And, well, it couldn’t be her husband, now could it?

People were bad liars, that was why he never tried to lie. For him, the truth was the best lie there was. In this situation, they weren’t even liars. They were just tried to keep on living, mourning the loss of what exactly … It laid in the details. Cosimo was all about the details. He had been here enough to know a little bit about the people. They weren’t all good ones, far from it but the fact they all wearing the colors of a recent death, the way they looked at the Morain castle said enough. And it worried him. For a person who was rarely worried that meant quite a lot. The smile of his arrival died as he stopped before the castle. No, he wasn’t planning on having one of those moments again.

But as he arrived upstairs to where he knew the woman stayed that as much function as a second mother, his heart settled a little as a young woman walked out. At least she wasn’t the one death or heavily wounded. That still left Vallea, about the rest he little cared. He knocked before he heard her familiar voice inviting him in. There was something of a short tender smile on his lips as he pushed the door open and walked in. He carefully closed the door before he turned back to her. ‘You got me worried.’ He admitted on the first best feelings of relief he felt. He kept his body straight against the door, no hello, no I missed you, just a long look. ‘Should I be?’ He then asked. ‘Worried?’ Only if she reassured him he shouldn’t be worried he would be able to show his happiness for seeing her again. But for now, something about this whole picture wasn’t fitting.
Death doesn't discriminate.

Her husband had been laid out in the hall of the dead, not too far away from here. His family could visit him for a few days before he would truly be laid to rest. She had intended to visit him again, to look at that bloated, pale body of his and be happy to realize that he would never come back again. He had looked so sickly the last couple of days of his life that there wasn’t much a difference now. Sometimes Bella found herself fearing that the man would just sit up and walk home again.

Bella finished up putting in her earring and looked over her shoulder to see who had come to visit her this early. When Cosimo appeared in the doorway, she smiled and got up from her seat almost immediately. “Cosimo, my dear,” she excitedly greeted him. He hadn’t announced that he was visiting, so it was a pleasant surprise indeed. She walked up to him, cupping his jaws with both hands as she took a few seconds to study his face. A proud grin stood on her face as she looked at him. It might as well have been her own son. Her smile turned a little more melancholic when the young man asked whether he should be worried. Her hands retracted from his face and fell back next to her body. He could probably tell it wasn’t something too bad already; if it had been Vallea who had died, she wouldn’t have been able to smile at all. “Delvin has passed away in his sleep three days ago,” she then told him. There was no point in trying to dance around the point. “He’d been ill for a long time. It’s better this way.” Much better. Now he was no longer here to torment her.

She smiled, she was smiling. Which meant that there was nobody important death or at least nobody she dearly cared about. Which meant Vallea was alright. And that was everything Cosimo cared about, her and his cousin. There was little in this world that he loved other than his family. His friends weren’t even real friends, aside of Mia maybe. His business was hardly his business. The one thing he cares for more than anything was his magic, because that, that was only his. And he was proud of it, even when he knows it was killing him in inside.

His smile expanded when she called out to him. ‘Isabella.’ He greeted her back. It wasn’t often you heard the softness in his voice, that tone of love. But she meant a great deal to him, almost as much as his father meant to him. He walked over to her and she immediately cupped his face, studying his expressions. There was nothing in it that would worry her. All the things he didn’t want her to know where safely tucked away. ‘Surprise.’ He winked. It was only when she answered his question that the smile dropped from his face. ‘Owh.’ He just stated, a little confused. Well, that wasn’t bad news, right? ‘In his sleep?’ He asked, that was said, he rather saw the man choke to death of his sickness, something a little crueler than just in his sleep. He studied her face for a second. ‘It’s better for you, right?’ He asked with a little doubt. He had heard what that man was capable of. It was nothing good. And Cosimo would already cross his line if he lived here and killed the man himself. ‘But I’m sorry anyway. Seem I’m right on time to distract you if you needed it.’ He said with that concern in his voice. He was always here, he would always come.

During times like these, there was nothing sweeter than being surrounded by family. Word of her husband’s passing had not left Silvershire just yet, and she had hoped to reach the Evergreen before the rumours would. She wanted to be the one to tell her family about what had befallen her, to be in their presence as she moved through this strange and unfamiliar period. It was good to have Cosimo at her side already.

She warmly greeted her nephew, as she always did to members of her precious family. As was custom for their house, Isabella had assumed her maiden name again after Delvin’s passing. In many ways, it felt good to be a Cascioferro once again. She smiled when she studied Cosimo’s face, concluding that he looked good and healthy. A soft hum left her mouth in confirmation when Cosimo repeated her words. “It sounds rather peaceful, doesn’t it?” she commented, briefly thinking back to the moment that her husband gasped for air as he laid in bed next to her. “But it wasn’t pretty.” Death never was, or so it seemed. The corner of her mouth curled up in a knowing smile when he asked whether it was better for her. “Yes, but we do not need the world to know that.” Optics mattered, after all, and she would have to play the part of the grieving widow for a little while longer to not arouse any suspicion that she was happy with the passing of her husband. “Seems like you are,” she said, eyeing him a little bit. “I was meaning to go visit him right now at the hall of the dead.” Something that he might be interested in joining, perhaps.

His arrival here was apparently right on time. Cosimo didn’t really have a reason to come here, it had been a simple desire to get away from home. But it seemed a force triggered him in coming here, warning him that something changed. Years ago he wouldn’t believe in such things, it would be simply coincident. But now … maybe the void of his dark magic told him to go. It was one of those ways in which you saw things weren’t completely okay with him. But nobody notice because while those dark thoughts roamed his mind the smile steadied himself on his face. He was a happy kid, or at least that is what he told you.

As soon as Isabella told him about the death of her husband he hoped for something cruel, painful. A reward for treating his wife the way he did. But it wasn’t like that, it was in his sleep, where he hardly had a grip on reality. She seemed to read his mind and Cosimo his dark eyes shifted back to her. ‘It is peaceful, I wished for something more,’ he paused, forcing that smile back on his face like he forgot to be normal for a second. But then she said it wasn’t pretty and he shortly frowned, almost asking how it went. But all he said was … ‘Good.’ He nodded. Which meant she was a Cascioferro again. A short smile rose on his lips as he kissed her cheek. ‘No, you are mourning the death of your husband, so tragic.’ He smiled, devilish. Cascioferro’s knew how to act, how to lie in the face of liars. So his arrival had been at the right time. Her proposal to go and visit her dead husband triggered the wrong part of him. His eyes shortly rested on the window while he hurried out the thoughts he had before looking back at her with a polite nod. ‘Offcourse.’ He nodded. If you looked long enough you would see a certain longing. ‘Are you planning on writing the family about it?’ He then asked, walking out of her room to follow her.

It was almost as Cosimo had been fated to come here at this time. As if he had felt the loss from miles away and had come to be at his family’s side throughout this hectic time. While Bella wasn’t too saddened by the loss of her husband, his passing had brought on a lot of change. She had become Lady Regent of Silvershire and would be just that until her son had come of age. Not only that, she also stood at the head of the Honeybrew Meadery now. A load of responsibilities had been dumped on her, but she was confident that she would be able to carry them.

A weak smile appeared on her face when Cosimo expressed that he had wished for something more than just going in his sleep. Bella was at peace with all of it. His death had been rather quick, but his deterioration had been dragged out over multiple months. That had been his true suffering, she believed. Her nephew obediently played along with the little façade. Bella smirked. “Tragic indeed,” she ‘agreed’. He then asked whether she was planning to write the family about it. “I wasn’t sure whether I was going to write or whether I’d just travel west to tell everyone in person,” she said. There was plenty of stuff to take care of around here, but she would like to see her family once again. “I have been missing all of you.” At heart, she had always been a Cascioferro, and being away from her family for so long had hurt her deeply. She walked out of her chambers with him, throughout the hallways. “But I suppose I have a lot of things to take care of around here.” Therefore, she was glad that Cosimo had come all this way.

They all lost something. Maléna and her siblings lost their parents in an ugly death, Cosimo lost his mother while she gave birth to his sister... Isabella lost her husband, even when she didn’t actually love him. Cascioferro’s didn’t weep. They gave themselves a day to mourn before they got stronger and went on with life. That was what made them so strong, so independent and fearful. Being an enemy of them was a very poor choice to make. They lost enough to know the feeling, enough to rise always above it. And Isabella would rise, she always did.

The people probably know them to be a loving couple to the city. Cosimo couldn’t handle the thought that his aunt would be mistreated in any way. Playing along was only what he did for her, not for the people, not for his dead corpse … for her. This was her reputation, her city. So he mildly smiled before he asked her if she would inlight the rest of the family of this tragic loss. ‘Do you have a council here you trust? To take over enough for you to spend a few days back home?’ He asked rather quietly. He would love for Isabella to come back home with him. Only so they would be together once more. He smiled at her words. ‘We are missing you too.’ He admitted. They never said it with so many words but letters often weren’t enough. He followed her into the hallway, watching the guards, the servants, and everybody else as they passed them. ‘If you want I bring over the message if you decide not to go home.’ He proposed. ‘But father would love to see you.’ He then said, kind of trying to pull her over a little. They were always a convincing family but it often didn’t work when they were among each other.

Being a Cascioferro meant having to deal with loss. The business that her family was involved in was never an easy one, nor was it very forgiving. One wrong move could cost someone their life, to the point that it felt as if half her family had been slaughtered in the name of business. Parents, brothers, sisters, children. All of them had lost someone close, but that would not stop them. It was not easy to move past those things, but it was necessary.

For years, Bella had tried to play the role of the loving, supportive wife. Sometimes, she had felt as if she could snap at any moment, and a few times it had actually happened. But never had she done anything to completely demolish the illusion that was their marriage. Now, she no longer had to pretend. Bella nodded in response to Cosimo’s question. “There’s a few people I trust,” she confirmed. Dax had always been loyal to her, and Vallea had proven herself in the realms of business. She was pretty sure Vallea would want to come along on a trip over to the Evergreen, though. She fondly smiled when Cosimo stated that they had been missing her too. “I’ll see. We still need to have the ceremony, and perhaps I might need to meet with Lady Sylversword too.” Travelling all the way to her family would take quite some time. Time she didn’t have. The guards and servants greeted her as she passed them, holding open the door that led them outside. “I’m going to warn you in advance; he doesn’t look all that well,” she said as she descended the stairs in front of the keep. Her late husband had never been known for his good looks, but death had really taken a toll on him, too.

If you would ask Cosimo if he was afraid to die his answer would probably be something slightly humorous. He spends his days watching the trade of his family, to see the dead animals raise up from their slaughter. He was too involved with the death that he didn’t even consider his own death. To have nobody to bring him back after he died. It was a scary thought but something he rarely thought about. It was something about faith that would decide when your time was up. And Cosimo believed his not being close enough to fully care about the definition of dying.

He knew it wasn’t easy for her to just leave everything behind only so she could visit her family. Certainly not now she was in charge of things. The people were all looking her way now, leaving this place wouldn’t leave a good impression. When she mentioned she trusted a few people he only nodded, knowing trust wasn’t easy to find these days. ‘Maybe I can convince some of them to come and visit you here.’ He smiled softly. His presence would already mean a lot to her but he was sure she would love to see her brother, Maléna, Leo even. ‘Will lady Sylversword grand you this position?’ He then asked. What if they just kicked her out, she was a widow after all. Her son should be the one to take over. But from one ruling woman to another … he shouldn’t know why Adeena would do such a thing. As he walked outside he turned half when she spoke again, raising an eyebrow. She had no idea where he was getting his head into. He had seen the worst of death, this … this was something he was looking forward to. ‘I don’t need him to look well.’ He said, softer before following her again. ‘Nobody ever looks good after they die.’ He followed, eyes fixed on the keep, his mind a hundred miles away, not even knowing he was saying what he just said.

While she had always proven her value in the ways of both government and business, having everything fall to you and you only was something new for her. Her husband had always called the shots. At times, he had valued her opinion, but he was always the one to make the executive decisions. She just stood by to watch and learn. Putting her knowledge into practice would be something she wasn’t used to, although she was more than eager to try.

Her time had gotten a lot more valuable all of a sudden. Although she would love to travel west and meet her family once again, she wasn’t sure whether she could even spare the time for it. There were plenty of things that needed to be arranged still. While she trusted Dax to keep the place going until she had returned, she always preferred to do things herself. Just to be sure. Cosimo proposed to get some family members to come visit her, to which she nodded. “I certainly wouldn’t mind.” But she doubted everyone would be willing. A faint smirk appeared on her face when her cousin inquired about Lady Sylversword. “Our High Lady has been incredibly sympathetic to our situation, so I doubt she’ll be any trouble.” Besides, once her son would come of age, he would assume her position. Cosimo didn’t seem to mind facing a dead body, as she had already expected. “He didn’t look good when he was alive either,” she commented with a slight hint of humour in her voice. Fortunately, the hall of the dead wasn’t too far away. Once they arrived, one of the priests opened the door for them, bowing his head in a solemn welcome. Bella easily made her way to the designated room. Laid out on cold stone was a paler version of her husband, two flat pebbles covering his eyes. “He will be returned to the flames of Aster at the end of the week,” Bella eventually softly spoke. And that would be the last she would ever see of him.

If she wouldn’t be able to travel home he would just need to travel more here. Luckily that was one of the things he loved to do most, to just take his horse and wander around in nature. Cosimo wasn’t afraid of the monsters at night. If they came for him then well … so be it. But she didn’t need to see only him, she probably wanted the rest of her family too. Which he understood. Their family was growing in power, not only through Maléna but also through Isabella. And that asked for certain sacrifices.

When she stated she wouldn’t mind some of her family members to come over he slightly smiled, reassuring her with just a simple look that he would try. After all, she lost somebody, that needed the comfort of the people closest around you. Even when that loss wasn’t a real loss at all. When she spoke about Lady Sylverword he looked at her, nodding in the process. ‘Heard she lost her husband to in the war up north.’ He remembered from the gossip that went through the estate. The North had conquered those monsters, monsters he would love to have seen from up close. His monster today was an entirely different kind of monster. And a death one for that matter. As they walked upon the doors she made a remark that made him try to stop his soft chuckle. ‘I wasn’t the one saying that.’ He smiled, hiding the smile as they stood before the doors and the priests let them in. This was a place of respect and silence. Cosimo looked up the walls and ceiling before his eyes settled on the man. Pale and cold, his eyes covered, nicely dressed. Cosimo crossed his arms behind his back, watching the man in his peaceful sleep. When she said he would leave this earth the end of the week he looked aside to her. ‘What were his last words to you?’ He asked, turning his eyes back to the body. This was all to nice for him anyway.

Family was important to her, as it was to each and every Cascioferro. It had been her family that had always been there to catch her when she fell, to support her in even the direst circumstances. She knew she could always rely on her siblings, her nieces and nephews, and her children for anything. They would go to the edge of the world for her, and Bella would gladly return the favour if need be.

But she had been far removed from them for the majority of her life now. At least she now had the agency to choose to travel to and from the Evergreen as she pleased, even if it was a little more irresponsible to leave now. Cosimo brought up Lord Sylversword’s passing, to which Bella nodded. “I wonder whether she has been as stricken by grief as I am,” she pondered, meaning not at all. The harsh reality of political marriages was that it often wasn’t as painful to lose your spouse as you needed to pretend it was. The slighting remark at the expense of her husband made Cosimo chuckle, but both their smiles quickly disappeared as they entered the hall of the dead. Bella eyed her husband. She had gotten used to seeing him like this by now. Her gaze shifted to Cosimo when he asked her a question. “The last thing he told me was to fetch the physician,” she said, shaking her head. They were hardly the poetic, meaningful last words that one would imagine for someone of his stature. She saw how intently Cosimo was eyeing the body, making her raise her brow. “Don’t get any ideas. This is a man we do not need brought back to life,” she then warned her cousin. No matter how limited that form of life was.

Sometimes he wished he could just live here, in the Glade, with her. He didn’t really know why. Maybe it was just for the adventure, maybe he felt more grounded around her. Maybe things home sometimes got a little to tense. Maybe there were too much Cascioferro’s at home, suffocating if you had them all in the same room. He really didn’t know, the one thing he knew was that he was able to live in every place. But it was often how the city worked that left an impression and they all knew they weren’t saints here in Silvershire.

Two ladies here in the Glade that lost their husbands. Two ladies that now hold the power all for themselves. He knew the High lady of Sapphire Keep wasn’t long married before she lost her husband, he didn’t know how much she cared for that husband, to begin with. But as Isabella spoke he looked shortly aside. ‘The world should fear any women leading a house on her own.’ He said. Maléna did it. And he knew that Isabella would rule with the same iron fist. Men often underestimated women, it was what got them killed in the first place. Even when she wouldn’t rule forever, it sure would be a fruitful one. As they entered the room he grew quiet until they stood before the dead body. He liked dead bodies. When he asked what his last words were he looked aside to her. ‘Auwth.’ He smiled, looking back to the man. ‘I expected more.’ He muttered. But it showed how little he cared about her. His eyes fixated a little too long on the man, wishing all the wrongdoings for some soul that laid one finger to his family. Isabella noticed, pointing out she didn’t want to see him back alive. ‘You know me too well. But I can’t.’ He honestly said. ‘I can’t receive humans yet.’ He slowly looked aside. ‘Trying tho. And even if I could, I wouldn’t make you suffer him twice.’ He promised with a warm smile. That man would be only a puppet then, didn’t mean she had to look at him again.

Of course, she had her own children around here. Federico and Vallea were always at her side, which was exactly how she wanted it. Dax was there, too, to keep an eye on things when she couldn’t. She had built up her own family miles away from home, although that didn’t diminish the way she missed the rest of House Cascioferro.

Now that she thought about it, Lady Sylversword and her had quite a bit in common. Two women standing at the head of their respective houses, unaided by a husband. Bella was sure that the High Lady of the Glade was a smart, capable woman, but she had always been hesitant to extend a hand towards anyone that wasn’t family. Cosimo pointed out that the world should fear women like them, which briefly made her smirk. “They will come to do so soon enough,” she predicted. There were plenty of women in charge these days, and it was only a matter of time before they would run out of patience with their male counterparts. Bella shrugged a little when her nephew commented on her husband’s last words. “He’s always left me expecting more,” she said. In many ways, she had already gotten used to him disappointing her. Cosimo then told her he couldn’t revive people yet, but he was trying. She faintly smiled. “Perhaps I could lend you the key to the house of the dead. So you can practice the coming few nights.” She knew her cousin had an exceptional gift, and she would rather have him practice somewhere safely than anywhere he could be seen by others.

It wasn’t really a smile, it was more like some grin, some promising grin when she stated that they soon would see how a woman’s rule was. He would be able to support that, to be beside that. It was the kind of grin he showed when an animal rose up of the death. A grin of succession, a grin towards the future he saw in his mind. He would never be one to stand on top of things, he was rather the supporting shadow, eliminating the danger. He tried to be that for Maléna, he would try to be that for his aunt to. After all, he didn’t practice for his own joy, he did it all for them.

‘Do you have plans?’ He asked, looking aside to her before they entered the room. He knew every Cascioferro was a rather ambitious one. He wasn’t enough here to know her mindset but he was pretty sure she wanted something else for this city then he did. He probably didn’t saw the bigger picture, there was always a bigger picture. When she said he always left her expecting more he looked aside, studying her face before he looked back to the body. ‘How is Frederico dealing with this?’ He asked softly. There was still a son accounted for. One that one day would take over that rule. He was innocent and pure and way too young to lose a father. But maybe he didn’t care either, just as he didn’t care for his wife. That was the underlying rage Cosimo always had, not caring enough about family. But maybe that was just a Cascioferro thing. Her offer surprised him. He looked away from the man towards his aunt. ‘Those are your dead.’ He said. He wasn’t planning on disrespecting the death of this house. ‘You know what it does to me, you would push to much power in my hands.’ He softly said, looking down at his hand. Cut after cut, the palm of his hand was scared with the many tries he already committed. He was afraid that raising one body would make him want to raise them all. She didn’t want to be responsible of that.
Death doesn't discriminate.

Bella could not say for sure what the future would hold for her. The truth of the matter was that she was entirely new to this. Never had she directly held power, but she believed herself to be capable enough to bring this all to a good end. For her and her family, at least.

Did she have plans? A few, but they were still very much a work in progress. All of this was only just starting for her, but she would make sure to leave a mark. “I intend to expand my husband’s business,” she said. Among other things, that was. It was a small step forward, but it would earn her a significantly larger income, which was always a perk. Her expression grew a little more troubled when Cosimo asked about her son. “He’s inconsolable,” she admitted. She might not rue the death of her husband as much, but her son certainly did. “But he’ll pull through.” Of all her children, Federico was by far the most sensitive, which is why she kept a closer eye on him than the others. When she offered him the key, Cosimo made a case against her decision. She observed him for a little bit before answering. “Cascioferro’s are stubborn,” she remarked. “We will do as we think we need to, regardless of what people tell us. If you are going to test your abilities, I’d rather you do it here than out in the open.” Her people did not take kindly towards strangers, especially not ones that could raise the dead.

When she said she wanted to expand her husband’s business he shortly looked at her. Eying her from top to bottom to reassure himself that she was standing behind this choice she made. He didn’t doubt she was, otherwise she wouldn’t be saying this to her. So he finally nodded. ‘If you need any help, make sure to ask me.’ He smiled. He had her loyalty, every Cascioferro had his loyalty. It was what would make him so dangerous in the end. His loyalty didn’t know boundaries.

When he asked about her son the answer was less happy and Cosimo looked back to the body. ‘Offcourse he will. He is half us, we know to deal with death better than others.’ He said. He lost his mother, his baby sister. Maléna and the others their parents. They all had mourned the death already. ‘I will talk with him.’ He smiled. Surely he could lift the little guy’s spirit a little. Even if it was just by saying something that would give him courage. Or run after him through the courtyard. Children didn’t need much to forget. Even if forgetting wasn’t always the best option. The matter of her death however made him step back on the subject a little. She didn’t want to give him so much, it wouldn’t be healthy he knew it. When she said they were stubborn he shortly chuckled. Yes, they were. To locked on their ambitions. He always said it, it would get them killed. As she continued he signed, turning his body to her, away from the dead one on the stone table. ‘Fine.’ He said. He put one finger up. ‘Only one, don’t give me more. I won’t be able,’ he smiled. He knew his boundaries, he wasn’t sure for how long but he was remembering them now. ‘I don’t want to act out, not here.’ He whispered. Not in front of her, not in front of her people.
Death doesn't discriminate.

Her husband had been too preoccupied with other things to focus on the meadery, but Bella had different intentions. Money meant power, and the more she would make of it through the meadery, the better. Cosimo was quick to offer his help, which promptly made her smirk. “I just might,” she said. After all, she would need someone to introduce and distribute her product in the more western regions of Avalance, too.

Federico did not deal with things as easily as his siblings would have. He still had the sentimentality of a boy, which made Bella all the more protective over him. Cosimo agreed that he’d pull through, to which Bella nodded. “Thank you,” she said when he suggested he talk to her son. “Perhaps a man-to-man conversation was what he needed more than the coddling of a worried mother.” Now that his father was no longer around, that had become considerably more difficult. Her cousin warned her to only give her one, not any more. Bella nodded. “Very well,” she said, glancing aside to the body of her husband. “The dead will wait for us, but the living won’t.” Delvin would be here to see all week. “I’m sure Federico and Vallea would love to see you.” If they weren’t off to somewhere by now.
