  • Caer Scion

Caer Scion is the capital city of the Highlands and the ancestral home of House Freyr. A watchtower is located in every corner of the city, providing look out over the empty landscape surrounding them. The city is built against the base of the northern part of the Iron Ridge and is protected by its peaks. The source of the Silver Tear runs along the city walls, providing it with fresh water. To the south of the city, one can find the Boiling Basin, where traitors and enemies are brought to the Lord’s justice.

  • The Frozen Abyss

The icy waters separating the Highlands from the unknown areas of the North, where those who are not faithful to any Lord or King live, are known as the Frozen Abyss. They separate Avalance from that what lies beyond, the North where no men go. The people who live in the far north are considered savages. The Last Hearth is located close to these waters and its people are the only known people to trade with these savages.

  • The Cursed Reach

Not much is known about the current landscape of the Cursed Reach, especially the most northern parts. Most of it is snow-covered mountains, with some small gatherings of pine trees in between. Wildlife is scarce as in any area far up north. In times long gone, a city was located between the mountains. Where it was once filled with life, the dead now reign. Undying of the last stage roam these mountains. No man has been known to walk into their city and survive, though many have tried. After all, valuable books and other wares are said to still exist in the heart of the Reach. Beware that this is a dangerous area.

  • The Iron Ridge (N)

The northern part of the Iron Ridge is a lot less inhabitable than its southern reach. It is very sparsely populated and knows only a few villages and towns. Most of the Ridge is covered by snow all year round. The build-up of snow on the mountainsides can cause avalanches, making it a place most people avoid if possible. In most northern parts, one can see lights dancing through the sky on a clear night.

  • The White Wood

The most northern forest of Avalance is called the White Wood. The trees are coated with a layer of snow all year round, causing them to look permanently white. Wildlife is scarce, although not completely absent, giving the forest its nickname, the Silent Woods. Herds of mighty elk roam these lands, living off the vegetation that is available in the harsh weather. Snowstorms are common, and people often seek shelter beneath the trees. The town of Aeldun lies in the southern parts of the White Wood and is home to the people that live of what the woods have to offer.

  • Ironwood Forest (N)

The Ironwood Forest is green all year round because of the pine trees that reach high into the sky. The floors catch very little sunlight and thus not many shrubs and other small plants grow here. However, there still are many animals that made their home in this forest, most famous the herds of deer and wandering red foxes. The northern part is often used for hunting as the pines easily endure the harsh winters that are common in the Highlands. Because of the wildlife, there are a few small towns in and around the forest that accommodate the hunters.
